ONEONTA, N.Y. - Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) posted the match clinching victory at five singles as Hartwick edged Nazareth 5-4 in Empire 8 Conference men's tennis action, Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks, who posted their third-consecutive victory, trailed 2-1 following doubles action. Hartwick won four of six singles matches, including Altman's 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Alexander Bodensieck en route to improving to 5-3 on the season. Dan Riviello (Clyde, N.Y.), Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.), and Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.Y.) also claimed singles victories for Hartwick. Riviello posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at the top of the singles lineup over Jon Weaver; Barr defeated Stephen Trobert 6-2, 6-4 at the four spot, while Hughes needed two tiebreakers to outlast Jerry Stocker at six singles 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).   The senior dedicated his singles victory to his mother, who was cheering him on from the stands.

The Golden Flyers got their singles wins from Terrance Nichols and Adam Landry. Nichols downed Dan Meininger (Cassville, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-4 at two singles, while Eric DesRoberts (Biddeford, Maine) dropped a 6-4, 6-4 result to Landry at three singles.

Hartwick's lone doubles decision came at the third spot as the tandem of Altman and Hughes posted a convincing 8-2 win over Stocker and Ben Caiella.

The Hawks return to action Sunday in an important E8 contest against St. John Fisher. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Hartwick Tennis Courts. However, should the inclement weather move into the area which is expected, the match will be moved to the Oneonta Tennis Club.
