NORTON, MASS. - Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, Utah) collected six goals and Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand) tied two school records as the 14th-ranked Hartwick downed Brown 18-10, Saturday evening at Wheaton College's Balfour Natatorium in a CWPA match-up.
The Hawks, who improved to 22-9 overall, broke open a one-goal game, by outscoring the Bears 5-2 in the second quarter to take an 8-4 lead into intermission. Hartwick led over Brown 12-7 after three quarters.
Hudson tallied five goals and eight assists in the victory, which tied school records for helpers and points in a single game. Ironically, the sophomore now shares both school standards with another native of Wellington, New Zealand, Kate Chambers, who posted the same goal and assist total as Hudson (five goals and eight assists) in an 18-8 victory over Brown on March 12, 2005.
Ellen Sevigny (Mount Desert, Maine) also added five goals in the decision, while Jessica McKee (Tustin, Calif.) and Barbara Amaro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each scored once. Jessica Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand) saved nine shots for Hartwick. In the opening game, the Hawks dumped Harvard 19-5 at Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Mass. McKee led 10 different Hawks in the scoring column with four goals, while Sevigny chipped in three. Amaro, Hudson, Megan Dahl-Smith (Montreal, Quebec), Lisa Gibson (Beaverton, Ore.), and Kaitlin Leonard (Montreal, Quebec) each tallied one in the Hawks' 19th-consecutive win over the Crimson. With her two-goal outing, Amaro established a new single-season personal best for goals with 24, breaking her former mark of 23 set in 2007. Dorman made 13 stops in the win.
Hartwick will take a nine-game win streak into next weekend's CWPA Northern Championships at Utica College's Clark Athletic Center.
