ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After posting four singles wins to help lead Hartwick to a 3-1 week, freshman
Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y./Edgemont HS) has been named as the co-Empire 8 Conference player of the week for men's tennis, it was announced by the league office.
Barr, who is 7-2 overall at four singles for the Hawks, reeled off four straight victories on the week, including three wins in conference match-ups. After downing Paul Alexander (Utica) Tuesday in straight sets, he recovered from being a set down and rallied to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Adam Generale of Rensselaer. The victory helped Hartwick to a 6-3 win over the Red Hawks, the first victory in nine tries over Rensselaer. On Saturday, he defeated Nazareth's Stephen Trobert 6-2, 6-4 and then returned to post a 7-6 (2), 6-7 (1), 10-7 decision over Mike O'Connor of St. John Fisher.
Hartwick, 5-4 overall, returns to action Tuesday as it travels to face league rival Ithaca.
