Hamilton Downs Hartwick in Men's Lacrosse

  April 15, 2008
CLINTON, N.Y. - Marc Albu and Max Akuamoah-Boeteng each scored three goals as Hamilton downed Hartwick 10-7, Tuesday evening in a non-conference men's lacrosse match-up.

The Continentals, who improved to 5-6 overall, broke open a 3-3 game with five consecutive goals en route to the victory. Hartwick fell to 4-8 overall.

The Hawks got on the board first, 59 seconds into the contest as Dan Hushion (Farmingdale, N.Y.) notched the first of his two goals on the evening. After Hamilton took the lead with back-to-back scores, Mike Robustello (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) beat goalie Eli Leino for his sixth goal of the season to knot the game at 2-2 with 2:11 left in the opening quarter. However, the Continentals regained the advantage as Andy Simon scored with four seconds left in the period.

In the second quarter, the Hawks once again scored first. At 14:12, Vito DeMola (Holtsville, N.Y.) tied the contest at 3-3 with his 35th tally of the year. After that goal, it was all Hamilton as the Continentals finished off the second quarter with three goals and then added the first two scores of the third to build an 8-3 lead.

The Hawks chipped the deficit down to 8-5 as DeMola scored with 5:10 left in the third and Hushion added another with 11:35 remaining in the fourth. From that point on, teams traded goals with DeMola and Steve Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) scored at 6:44 and 2:42 respectively.

Leino saved 10 shots and gained the victory for the Continentals, while John Meade (Fire Island, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss despite posting 17 saves.

DeMola finished the evening with three goals and two assists, while Robustello collected one goal and two helpers.

Hartwick will wrap up its 2008 campaign Saturday as it travels to face Alfred. The game is set for a 1 p.m. face-off.
