ONEONTA, N.Y. - Jessie Fritz and Rachel Cornwell each netted four goals as Cortland posted a convincing 20-1 victory over Hartwick in women's lacrosse action, Thursday afternoon at Wright Stadium.
The Red Dragons, who improved to 8-5 overall, took the lead for good as Cornwell potted her first of four goals 1:11 into the contest. She scored three more in the opening half as Cortland took a 9-0 lead into intermission. Fritz scored three of her goals in the first 30 minutes.
The lead grew to 17-0 before Hartwick ended the shutout bid with 6:38 left in the game as
Stephanie Nutt (Shirley, N.Y.) connected for her seventh goal of the year off a successful free position shot.
Deanne Abell posted 11 saves in the victory. Sarah Farrell registered one save for the Red Dragons in the final 2:31. Hartwick's
Danielle DePerno (Cortland, N.Y.) saved nine shots before being replaced with 12:25 left in regulation.
The Hawks, 3-9 overall, return to action Saturday as it hosts Ithaca. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start at Wright Stadium.
