ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to cross town rival Oneonta State, Thursday.
The Red Dragons swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles. The Hawks' closest opportunity to gain one point came at second doubles as Eric DesRoberts (Biddeford, Maine) and Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) fell 8-6 to Matt Hanson and Mark Cannizzaro.
Hartwick dropped all six singles matches in straight sets. Dan Riviello (Clyde, N.Y.) returned to the lineup after a match hiatus and dropped a 6-3, 6-1 result to Matt Steinhauser; Jonathan Dorin defeated Dan Meininger (Cassville, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-2; Hanson downed DesRoberts 6-1, 6-0; Cannizarro posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Barr, and Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) fell to Jeremy Goldberg 6-0, 6-1. Hartwick's Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.Y.) pushed Scott Bell at six singles before dropping a 6-2, 7-6 (5) decision.
The Hawks, who fell to 5-6 overall, wrap up the Empire 8 schedule Saturday and Sunday at RIT and Alfred. Hartwick needs to defeat the Tigers and Saxons to earn a berth for the conference tournament.
