UTICA, N.Y. - Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand) netted six goals as 14th-ranked Hartwick dumped Harvard 17-7 in a second round match-up at the CWPA Northern Water Polo Championships, Saturday afternoon. The Hawks downed Queens 16-4 in the opening round.
Leading 3-2 after one quarter, Hartwick opened up a six-goal advantage at intermission after blanking the Crimson 5-0 in the second period. The Hawks led 12-4 after three.
Ellen Sevigny (Mount Desert, Maine) reached the 60-goal mark with three scored against Harvard, while
Kaitlin Leonard (Montreal, Quebec), Lisa Gibson (Beaverton, Ore.), and
Barbara Amaro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each chipped in two goals.
Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, Utah) added one as Hartwick stretched its win streak to nine games.
Jessica Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand) saved 14 shots in the victory.
In the victory over the Knights,
Stefani Toungate (League City, Texas) registered a career-high six goals, while freshman
Audrey Mitchell (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) also established a personal best with a four-goal outing.
Adrienne Holosko (Windsor, Ontario) added two scores, while
Sarah Johnson (Orleans, Mass.) and
Elizabeth Belman (Whittier, Calif.) each added one. Dorman, who played the field in the fourth quarter and scored twice, made 13 saves in the opening three frames. With her save effort against Queens, the freshman broke the single-season saves record at Hartwick. Amy Brunton held the previous record with 363 in 2004. With her 27 saves on the afternoon, Dorman now has 387 on the season.
Hartwick, 24-10 overall, will play the loser of tonight's Brown/Connecticut College match-up, Sunday at 9 a.m.
