ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) posted wins in singles and doubles action for Hartwick, but it wasn't enough as RIT defeated the visiting Hawks 7-2, Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference men's tennis clash. The loss officially eliminated Hartwick from a berth in the league tournament.
The freshman teamed with
Eric DesRoberts (Biddeford, Maine) to hand Hartwick its lone point in doubles competition with an 8-6 victory at the second spot over John Albers and Joe Schember.
Dan Riviello (Clyde, N.Y.) and
Dan Meininger (Cassville, N.Y.) dropped an 8-4 decision at the top spot, while
Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) and
Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.Y.) were handed an 8-5 defeat at three.
Barr, who upped his record to 8-4 overall in singles, rallied from a set down to edge Han Chong at four singles 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-3. Riviello lost to Jose Guzman 6-0, 6-1 at one singles; Meininger fell 6-3, 6-2 to Gean Yip at second singles; John Traver defeated DesRoberts 6-2, 6-0 at three; Altman was edged by Schember 6-2, 7-6 (5) at five and Hughes bowed to Chris Muench 6-1, 6-1.
Hartwick, which fell to 5-7 overall, will close the season Sunday at Alfred.
