Hawks Down #20 Brown For CWPA Northern Crown

  April 20, 2008

UTICA, N.Y. - Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand) netted seven goals as 14th-ranked Hartwick rallied to post a 16-13 come-from-behind victory over 20th-ranked Brown to capture the CWPA Northern Division crown, Sunday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.

The Hawks trailed 5-2 after the first quarter and 8-6 at the half. Hartwick outscored the Bears 6-3 in the third to take a 12-11 lead into the fourth and deciding period.

With her seven-goal effort, Hudson passed the 90-goal mark for the season despite not playing in nine games during the course of the season. The sophomore's 91 goals on the year ranks fourth on the single-season list in the program's history. Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, Utah) added three goals, while Barbara Amaro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) reached the 30-goal mark for her first time by scoring twice. Kaitlin Leonard (Montreal, Quebec), Jessica McKee (Tustin, Calif.), Lisa Gibson (Beaverton, Ore.) and Ellen Sevigny (Mount Desert, Maine) each chipped in one goal.

Jessica Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand), who became Hartwick's single-season save leader Saturday, stopped 12 shots as the Hawks won their 14th-straight over Brown.

Hartwick advanced to the finals with a 16-9 victory over Connecticut College earlier in the day. The Hawks jumped on the Camels early en route to leading 11-3 after the opening period. Hartwick led 13-5 at intermission and 14-6 after three.

McKee led the Hawks with three goals, while Gibson, Hudson, Audrey Mitchell (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) each scored twice. Dorman saved two shots in the first quarter and then was put in as a field player, where she scored two goals. Elizabeth Belman (Whittier, Calif.), Amaro, Stefani Toungate (League City, Texas), Adrienne Holosko (Windsor, Ontario) and Sarah Johnson (Orleans, Mass.) posted one goal each.

Hartwick, now 26-10 overall, will return to action Friday as it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., in search of defending its CWPA Eastern Championship title and gaining an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in the last five years. The seeds to the championship will be released Monday afternoon.
