ELMIRA, N.Y. - Hartwick received singles wins from the bottom three of the lineup, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks dropped a 5-4 decision to Alfred, Sunday evening.
The match, which started at Alfred, was moved one hour down the road with singles competition in progress to Elmira College's indoor complex due to incoming weather.
Alfred led 2-1 heading into singles. The Hawks lone victory came at the three spot as
Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) and
Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.Y.) downed Andrew Carucci and Ryan Parlia 8-3.
The Hawks, who fell to 5-8, received singles wins from
Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.), Altman and Hughes. Barr downed Garry Stratiev 6-1, 6-7, 6-0 at four singles; Altman edged Andrew Carucci 7-6 (2), 0-6, 6-4 at five singles, while Rob Festa dropped a 7-6 (3), 6-0 decision to Hughes at six.
Hartwick will end the 2008 season, Tuesday as it hosts Union. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
