ONEONTA, N.Y. - Dan Riviello (Clyde, N.Y.) wrapped up his collegiate career by posting victories in singles and doubles action, but it wasn't enough as visiting Union downed Hartwick 6-3 in men's tennis, Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks finish the season with a 5-9 record.
Riviello, one of five graduating seniors in the Hartwick lineup, teamed with another senior,
Dan Meininger (Cassville, N.Y.) to tally a 9-7 victory over Vic Ravikumar/Alex Katz at the top doubles pairing. The Dutchmen won the other two matches and took a 2-1 lead into singles. Sam Ringell and Matt Goodnow posted an 8-4 victory over
Eric DesRoberts (Biddeford, Maine) and
Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.), while Tom Haynes and Joe Wold registered an 8-1 decision over
Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) and
Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.Y.). Union won the first four matches out of the gate to clinch the match. Hartwick did finish the season by winning the final two singles matches. Riviello won a first-set tiebreaker en route to recording a 7-6, 6-3 win over Wold at the top of the lineup, while Barr finished out his freshman campaign with a 10-4 overall record after rallying from a set down to defeat Haynes 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 at the fourth spot.
