The 2008 Northeastern-1 Regional Conference of Beta Beta Beta, the biology honor society, was hosted by Hartwick College's Alpha Omega chapter on Saturday, April 26.
The best and brightest biology students from throughout the area descended upon Johnstone Science Center for the day, which included a slate of oral and poster presentations. The full day display of biology scholarship was capped by dinner and an awards ceremony in Stack Lounge.
"The officers of the Hartwick Chapter of BBB should be commended for organizing such a wonderful conference.," said Associate Professor of Biology Mary Allen. "They worked hard to organize a conference schedule that was relaxed and encouraged dialogue amongst the participants. For those of us who teach and conduct research with undergraduates the conference affirmed our involvement and illustrated why we enjoy working with these students. Students presented results of original research, much of which was very high quality work."
Faculty members from Hartwick, Manhattanville College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Vermont judged posters and oral presentations throughout the day. First-place winners receive travel funds from the National BBB organization to attend the Biennial National BBB Conference, which will be held at Northern Kentucky University in May 2008.
