Dialogues

Dialogues is an integral and required component of the First-Year Seminar and an important aspect of the First Year Experience. Each First-Year Seminar groups meets also as a Dialogues group throughout the first semester. Dialogues classes are seminar-style and are led by student mentors who assist first year students in the successful transition to college.

There are several components to Dialogues. The class provides opportunities to visit and become acquainted with offices and services on campus, to learn about Hartwick's general education curriculum, "Liberal Arts in Practice," and to become familiar with the details of important processes such as course registration.  Programming is also available through Dialogues to provide direction in task management, strategies and skills development, academic and personal responsibility, and choices.

Furthermore, Dialogues provides a framework for first year students to engage in activities that encourage community building, appreciation for multiculturalism, intercultural communications, and multiple worldviews, and the development of a healthy lifestyle.
