ROCHESTER, NY - Hartwick College's Brittany Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY), Gina Troy (Manchester, CT), and Marissa Mackay (Stillwater, NY) each garnered Empire 8 Conference accolades, as the league office announced its 2008 postseason women's soccer awards on Wednesday. Pine, a senior midfielder, received second team honors, while defenders Troy and Mackay both received honorable mention.
Pine was the team's leader in both goals scored (8) and points (21) for the Hawks this season. She started her senior campaign well with a goal and two assists in the season-opening win over Cazenovia. She scored a goal against Morrisville, added a late game-tying tally against Utica in a 1-1 draw with the Pioneers, and another against Elmira in a 2-0 shutout win. Pine would finish her career out with a bang recording five goals and three assists for 13 points in her final five matches on Oyaron Hill. After getting the game-winner in a 3-1 victory over RPI, she assisted the Hawks' lone goal in a draw with Keuka and picked up a pair of goals and assists in a 7-0 shutout of Alfred. In her final game, she scored to tie the score in a narrow 2-1 setback to Stevens. Pine finishes her career with 10 goals and seven assists and impressively played in all 74 of Wick's games over her four years with the program.
Troy played and started in each of the Hawks' 18 games this season. The senior defender also managed to score a goal which turned out to be the game-winner against Morrisville State on Sept. 14. Troy was also named the Hartwick representative on the Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year team which honors one player from each member institution who displays leadership and sportsmanship on and off the field.
Mackay was a valuable member of the team on both sides of the ball this season for the Hartwick squad. She not only is a top defender, but her speed on the outside caused fits for opposing defenses and created many dangerous opportunities for the Hawks on the offensive end. Mackay also earned Empire 8 Honorable Mention last season for the Hawks.
