Hartwick Wins Elms College Blazer Tip-Off Tournament Title

CHICOPEE, MA - Hartwick College junior guard Heather Pruchansky (Naples, FL) netted a game-high 20 points and was named Tournament Most Valuable Player as the Hartwick College women's basketball team cruised to a 72-53 win over Johnson State College in the championship game of the 2008 Blazer Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Elms College on Saturday.

Pruchansky hit 6-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc for 'Wick, which evened its record at 2-2 overall. Senior guard Katie Caddell (Amsterdam, NY) added 11 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Senior guards Jenna Lewis (Middlebury, VT) and Casey Rusin (Wilmington, VT) were both named to the All-Tournament for Johnson State (2-1). Lewis finished with 11 points and a game-high seven assists, while Rusin added nine points.

The Hawks held a slim 31-28 lead at intermission before erupting with a 25-8 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach. Hartwick held big advantages in both rebounding (45-31) and bench scoring (40-11) en route to the victory.

The Hawks also held Johnson State to just 37% shooting for the contest. Kara Foro (Schenectady, NY) and Jessica Butera (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) each added eight points, and Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, NJ) scored seven for the Hawks. Junior center Claudia Martineau (Washington, VT) finished with 12 points and six rebounds for Johnson State.

Hartwick is back in action on Tuesday night in Schenectady at Union College.
