Dutchwomen Down 'Wick

SCHENECTADY, NY - Senior forward Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY) made 10-of-11 shots and tied her career-high with 24 points to lead the Union women's basketball team to a 76-53 non-league victory over Hartwick College (2-3) Tuesday night at the Viniar Athletic Center.

Senior guard Selin Whitham (New Windsor, CT) had eight assists with seven rebounds and junior guard Rachel Titcomb (Henniker, NH) scored a career best 16 points for the Dutchwomen (2-0). For the Hawks,

Junior guard Lauren Ploof (Hammond, NY) recorded team-highs of 12 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, NJ) added 10 points. Danee Harrison (Cary, NC) tied for a game-high with eight rebounds.

Union shot 48% on the night while Hartwick was held to 28% shooting. The Dutchwomen had a 41-34 rebounding advantage in the triumph, and made seven of the eight free throws (88%). Hartwick went to the line 26 times and shot 73% from the stripe.

The Dutchwomen took a 12-point lead into the locker room, 37-25. Hartwick had an 11-9 lead with 11:55 to go in the first half, but Union would go on a 14-2 in the next 5:55 for a 23-13 advantage. Union's largest lead in the first half was 14, at 34-20 with 2:05 to go. The Dutchwomen outscored the Hawks in the paint in the first 20 minutes, 22-4, but Hartwick converted 15 points off Union turnovers.

A 12-2 Union run in the first 3:49 of the second half, made it a 22-point Dutchwomen lead at 49-27. Union never led by less than 16 points the rest of the way en route to the victory.

The 'Wick next plays a non-league game on Tuesday, December 2 at Skidmore at 6 p.m. Union (2-0) returns to Viniar and puts its unbeaten record on the line against Williams on Saturday at 2 p.m.
