ROCHESTER, NY - The Empire 8 Conference announced on Monday that Hartwick sophomore guard Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, NJ) has been named the Co-Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Flores, who splits the honor with RIT's Sharon Dennis, has earned a share of the award twice this season.
Flores averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals in a 1-1 week for Hartwick. She scored a career-high 25 points in a 60-53 setback to Utica on Tuesday, including 11 straight Hartwick points to erase a nine-point deficit in the first half. She closed the week with 20 points, six rebounds, and a game-high five steals in a 71-60 Hawks' comeback victory over RIT on Sunday.
Hartwick College's women's basketball team, after winning only eight games last season, is just one game from the .500 mark with an 11-12 overall mark under first-year head coach Missy West. The Hawks are in fifth place in the Empire 8 standings with two games remaining against Alfred on Feb. 20th and Stevens on Feb. 21st.
