
LAKE PLACID, NY - This past weekend members of the Hartwick men's and women's cross country teams racked up the medal total at the Empire States Games Snowshoe Racing Championships in Lake Placid, NY.
Leading the way for the Hawks was freshman Erika Gates (Vestal, NY) who took home four medals in the Open women's track events. Erika bettered the field in the 1500m for gold, then proceeded to add silver in the 400m, and bronze in both the 100m and 200m. In the women's open 5k, sophomore Laura Gray (Vestal, NY) earned a spot at the podium with a bronze.
On the men's side sophomore Tim Sattler (Warwick, NY) moved up the podium with silver in the Open Men's 5k with a time of 21:55. Sophomore Justin Pedersen (Gilbertsville, NY) and senior Sam Roods (Greenwich, NY) also raced to high overall finishes but just out of medal contention.
Hartwick Coach Dereck Treadwell won gold and the 5k overall in 19:07.
The track events were held on the campus of Paul Smith's College, while the extremely challenging 5k course was contended on the 1980 Olympic Biathlon course in Lake Placid.
