'Wick Field Hockey Players, Team Earn NFHCA National Academic Honors

CHANDLER, AZ - The Hartwick College field hockey team was one of 102 squads from around the country to earn the 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team Award. The award is presented to field hockey teams that have achieved a grade-point average of over 3.0. The Hawks' team, which consists of 23 players, has a cumulative GPA of 3.27.

The NFHCA also recently released its 2008 Division III National Academic Squad, which included 10 Hartwick student-athletes. Seniors Amanda Johnson (Reading, VT) and Lindsay Kurtz (Sherburne, NY) headlined the list, earning the recognition in each of the past four seasons. Only 17 other schools in the nation had more two or more four-time recipients.

The NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.

Hartwick's field hockey team closed out the 2008 season with seven overall victories and a 4-2 record in the Empire 8. The Hawks qualified for the Empire 8 playoffs as the third seed before falling in the semifinal round.
