Cocozziello Named ECAC Upstate All-Star

CAPE COD, MA - Hartwick College senior Jan Cocozziello (Scotch Plains, NJ) was named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) second team as the ECAC released its four regional Division III all-star teams on Friday. The Hawks' top scorer this season was one of four Empire 8 players represented.

Cocozziello led Hartwick to a 15-12 overall record and its first ECAC title in program history this season. Selected as a first team Empire 8 all-star and the ECAC Upstate Tournament Most Outstanding Player, Cocozziello ended the year 4th in the league in scoring (18.3 ppg), 9th in both assists (3.26/gm) and assist to turnover ratio (1.29), 13th in both steals (1.22/gm) and field-goal percentage (.466), and 15th in free-throw percentage (.629).

He closed out his four-year career ranked second in scoring in the 80-year history of the men's basketball program with 1,868 points, just 10 shy of the all-time record. Cocozziello also ranks fifth all-time at 'Wick in steals (130), eighth in three-pointers made (109), and he holds the career benchmark for free throws made with 407.

Cocozziello scored in double figures 82 times in his four-year career with the Hawks. He netted 20 or more 47 times and scored 30 points or better on 10 separate occasions.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference is the nation's largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with 319 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. The ECAC publicizes the achievements of over 750 student-athletes annually through the postseason all-stars. In men's basketball, the ECAC awards one Division II all-star team and four regional Division III all-star teams (New England, Upstate, Metro, and South).
