Laptop Checklist

In order to be prepared to use a laptop at Hartwick College, you need to do the following:

During the summer:

1. Decide what computer to buy (if any). See Laptop Specifications and Recommended Laptops. For an indication of your courses' computer requirements, go to WebAdvisor and use "Search for Sections."
2. Buy the computer of your choice. To buy a Hartwick-recommended laptop, use the links on the left side of this page or go to Recommended Laptops.
3. Tell us via the Laptop Choice Form what computer you will be bringing to class in the fall, so that we can reserve a seat for you at the appropriate session of "Hartwick—Getting Online" during Welcome Weekend.
4. Read and respond to the Hartwick Network Agreements by August 1.

When you arrive at Hartwick:

5. During Welcome Weekend, come to your assigned session of "Hartwick—Getting Online." Topics covered will include using the Hartwick network, using Blackboard and WebAdvisor, checking your Hartwick e-mail, and more. You will be assigned to a session depending on which laptop you bring (or no laptop).  Come to the session with:

• your laptop (if you have one)
• your AC power adapter and power cord
• your e-mail receipt for the required software (see next paragraph) (does not apply to Hartwick-recommended Lenovo computers)

Your computer cannot gain access to the Hartwick network (and the Internet via the Hartwick network) until we can guarantee that your computer will not infect the other computers on the network with a virus or other malware. To provide that guarantee, you will have to have Symantec Endpoint Protection and a certificate installed on your computer before it can operate on the network. The Symantec Endpoint Protection is included on Hartwick-recommended Lenovo computers (but you will still need the certificate installed at your session of "Hartwick - Getting Online").  If you are bringing a different computer, click here for order instructions. 

If you are bringing any computer other than a recommended Lenovo Thinkpad, you will have to have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed at the Technology Resource Center (TRC).
