CHARLESTON, SC - For the first time, former Hartwick College soccer great Tyler Hemming '07 has been called up to join Canada's full national team, announced late last week. Hemming, who plays in the midfield for the United Soccer Leagues' Charleston Battery, will join the Canadian team for training in preparation for its international friendly versus Cyprus on Sat., Mar. 30 at Neo GPS Stadium in Larnaca.

"Everyone associated with the Hartwick program is very excited for Tyler and his family," said 'Wick head coach Ian McIntyre after hearing the news. "Tyler has worked extremely hard to continue to elevate his game and this call up to the national team is well deserved. We are all very proud of Tyler and we are excited to continue to follow his progress with the national program and within the professional soccer arena."

Hemming was a four-year starter for the Hawks from 2003-2006. While with Hartwick, the London, Ontario native scored 16 goals, and assisted on four others. He posted 10 goals in his senior campaign to earn Atlantic Soccer Conference Player of the Year honors for the second straight season. He was also tabbed an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American before being drafted by Toronto FC of Major League Soccer.

After playing two seasons with Toronto, Hemming made the move to Charleston this season and has started six of the team's eight games. Through his first six appearances, Hemming has registered one assist for the Battery, which is at the top of the USL First Division table with a 4-0-4 record.
