
ONEONTA, NY - Senior Samantha Galm (Kingston, NY/Kingston) and junior Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) each scored in the first half to lead Hartwick field hockey to a 2-0 shutout of Scranton on Saturday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks are now 2-0 to start the season for the first time since 2004 when the team won the conference title and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
'Wick found itself up 1-0 within the opening five minutes of the game. Sophomore Anna Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) broke down the right side and delivered a perfect pass in front to Kaye who beat Royal goalie Deidre Rocklein for the lead.
Eight minutes later the Hawks extended their lead as Angela Eberly's (Harpursville, NY/Harpursville) cross was met in front by Galm who scored her third of the year from in close. The Hawks would close out the half with a 4-2 advantage in shots. Scranton held a 4-3 edge in penalty corners.
In the second half, Scranton mustered four shots, but none were good enough to beat goalie Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) who recorded her third career shutout making three stops.
The Hawks look to make it three in row on Wed., Sept. 9 when they travel to RPI. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Troy, NY.
