ONEONTA, NY - The nationally 12th ranked Hartwick College water polo team earned an exhibition victory over visiting Bucknell University by a final score of 19-8 at Moyer Pool on Saturday. Twenty different Hawks saw action in the contest, nine of which registered at least one goal.
The Hawks took control of the game midway through the first quarter as they scored the final four goals of the period to break a 3-3 tie and take a 7-3 lead. The 'Wick advantage grew to eight goals (12-4) after the second quarter of play, and the Hawks maintained at least an eight-goal edge throughout the second half of play.
Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec/Sacred Heart) led Hartwick with six goals, including five in the first half. Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand/Sacred Heart) and Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA/Laguna Beach) each tallied three times for the Hawks and Shannon Leonard (Pointe Clair, Quebec/John Rennie) contributed two goals.
Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak), Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec/Lindsay Place), Adrienne Holosko (Windsor, Ontario/Vincent Massey), Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls College), and Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA/Montebello) netted one goal apiece, and goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) stopped 11 Bison shots in goal.
Bucknell's offense was led by Kandis Canonica's three goals. Hallie Kennan added a pair of tallies and goalie Alison Carter made two saves.
The Hawks open the 2010 season next Saturday against UC San Diego at the UCSD Triton Invitational in La Jolla, CA.
