'Wick Takes 2nd at Triton Invitational

  February 7, 2010

LA JOLLA, CA - The 13th ranked Hartwick College water polo team took second place at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational after falling in the championship match to #10 Loyola Marymount on Sunday at Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla, CA. The Hawks defeated the host Tritons and #12 Cal-Northridge yesterday and downed #6 San Diego State today before falling to the Lions.

LMU took control of the contest with a big second quarter. The Lions, already leading 4-2, outscored the Hawks 6-1 in the second quarter to take a 10-3 halftime advantage. Hartwick got two goals back and trailed 11-6 heading into the fourth quarter, but only managed one more tally in the fourth and final period.

Senior Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand/Sacred Heart), junior Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA/Laguna Beach), and Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec/Sacred Heart) each scored two goals apiece for the Hawks. Hudson added three assists and sophomore Shannon Leonard (Pointe Clair, Quebec/John Rennie) contributed a goal and one helper. Goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) made eight saves and recorded a steal in the Hartwick goal.

Hartwick (3-1) will stay on the west coast until next weekend when the Blue and White compete at the Cal-Bakersfield Tournament. The Hawks open play on Feb. 12th against the host Roadrunners, who are currently ranked 18th nationally.
