Hartwick College Assessment Process GraphicIn late September 2008, the President unveiled a plan, adopted by the Board of Trustees, which provides an Organizing Principle and Strategic Framework for the College.

Simply stated, Hartwick College “will be the best at melding a liberal arts education with experiential learning.” This Organizing Principle and Strategic Framework evolved from numerous conversations with students, alumni, staff, and faculty and represents a collective vision of Hartwick College grounded in our history and traditions.

The Organizing Principle frames our ongoing institutional assessment efforts. President Drugovich explains that “The Organizing Principle and Strategic Framework focuses our decision-making around providing a quality experience, in and out of the classroom. This principle guides our collective work, which includes program, facility, and resource development.”

Assessment of institutional effectiveness refers to an ongoing and intentional process designed to monitor and determine the extent to which Hartwick’s curricular, co-curricular, and institutional processes support the achievement of operational and student-learning outcomes. By doing this, assessment informs our decision making around resource allocation and ensures support of Hartwick’s mission. 

In support of this effort, the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness serves as a source for resources and support for all assessment efforts at Hartwick College. More specifically we facilitate the following efforts on campus:

  • Professional development and resources related to assessment skills and knowledge
  • Campus-wide annual assessment plans
  • 5-year program reviews
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) institutional accrediation
  • College-wide Assessment Committee (CWAC)
  • Committee on Assessment of General Education (CAGE)
  • Retention Advisory Committee (RAC)
