June 8, 2021 at 8:00 a.m.: Vaccinated Employee Update from Human Resources
Effective today, June 8: Hartwick employees who are fully vaccinated and who have provided the College with their vaccination documentation are permitted to enter and work within all College buildings without wearing a mask. All unvaccinated employees must continue to wear a mask both outside and within all buildings while on campus.
Why we are making this change: The Strategic Response Team has reviewed the most recent New York State and CDC guidelines for mask wearing by fully vaccinated people inside of buildings. This guidance states that the fully vaccinated people may remove their masks while inside. Unvaccinated individuals, under both CDC and state guidance, must continue to wear masks in all public settings. Fully vaccinated people may choose to continue to wear a mask if they wish.
Though the CDC has advised that fully vaccinated individuals do not need to maintain social distance, six feet of social distancing will continue within all buildings until all employees have provided evidence of vaccination.
As a reminder, all employees must complete the CampusClear app daily when they are on campus.
If you have questions, please contact your Senior Leadership Team member.
May 18, 2021 at 9:20 a.m.: Hartwick COVID-19 vaccination policy for Fall 2021
Dear member of the Hartwick College Community,
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused us to make many adjustments – in the way we teach, the way we learn, and the way we are together. Though we do not know all of the COVID challenges that are yet to come, we do know that we would like to return to what we love about our Hartwick experience: living and learning together in a way that is both safe and enjoyable. We want to return to group travel, in person music, in person theatre, in person athletics, and in person socializing, being together, learning together, and preparing for our future, together.
We are at our best when we are here together – in the classroom and on our campus. We are a stronger community when we are together.
Given the evolving nature of the COVID-19 challenge the best current tool at our disposal for reclaiming the Hartwick campus experience is vaccination. As such, the College is announcing today that we will require all students, faculty and staff who will live, study or work on campus during the Fall 2021 semester to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine. For students, this requirement applies to all students who live on campus and/or participate in on-campus classes, studies, research, or activities.
Information on how to fully satisfy this vaccination requirement is provided in the Hartwick College COVID-19 Vaccination Policy (a copy is also attached to this announcement.) Any vaccine approved by the FDA or authorized by the FDA for emergency use in the U.S. (currently, Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson) is acceptable for purposes of this policy. Individuals who have received a vaccine that has not been approved for use in the US should refer to the policy. As noted in the policy, documentation of full vaccination must be provided by August 1, 2021. Employees should send their vaccination record to Employee Vaccination Cards and students should send their vaccination records to Student Vaccination Cards.
Many members of our community will be relieved by this decision. Some may continue to have concerns. Medical accommodations for those for whom a COVID-19 vaccine may be medically contraindicated will be considered in accordance with guidance from public health authorities, Hartwick policy and applicable law. Please see the attached Vaccination Policy for details. An individual who adheres to a sincerely held religious belief that conflicts with COVID-19 vaccination may also apply for an accommodation. The process for applying for accommodations can be found in the Hartwick College COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
We cannot be certain what, if any, public health measures related to COVID will be required in August. This may largely depend upon how many community members get vaccinated soon, whether more variants emerge with continued infections, and when/if we reach a level of community herd immunity through infection or vaccination. Whatever the conditions around us are, we anticipate that we will have more freedom on a fully vaccinated campus than if a significant portion of students and employees are unprotected. Vaccination is the key to our ability to return to our preferred way of being with one another while protecting our community.
This Vaccination Policy is our best strategy for having a 2021-2022 academic year that will be better for everyone. We are choosing the path that will lead to the best experience possible, for the greatest number of people. We will make adjustments to this policy as necessary based on factors such as the future course of the COVID-19 pandemic and guidance from local, state and federal agencies.
If you have questions or concerns, please send your inquiry to vaccinequestions@hartwick.edu.
With best wishes for your health and well-being,

May 14, 2021 at 10:23 a.m.: Mask wearing when outdoors: change in policy for fully vaccinated Hartwick students and employees
Dear Member of our Hartwick Community,
The CDC has revised its guidance regarding activities that fully vaccinated individuals can do more safely because of their vaccination. One change has to do with mask wearing. The CDC now advises that fully vaccinated individuals can safely remove their masks when outside for most activities. They have also updated guidance for activities that fully vaccinated individuals can do safely inside.
Relatively few Hartwick students (only 28%) have submitted a full or partial vaccination record to the Perrella Health Center, so we must assume that very few students are vaccinated. As such, for the safety of all members of our community, at this time we will not change our rules around mask wearing while indoors. All students and employees (whether vaccinated or not) must continue to wear their masks while indoors.
However, effective immediately, fully vaccinated students and employees may remove their masks while outdoors on campus. Those who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear their masks at all times on campus, both indoors and outdoors. Students and employees who are not vaccinated are still at high risk of COVID infection in Otsego County and must continue to wear their masks at all times while on our campus to protect their own health and the health of others.
Vaccination is the key to our ability to resume a less restrained way of being with one another. We will continue to make changes in our safety rules based upon evidence of the level of community vaccination. Please submit your vaccination record to the Perrella Health Center.
Please note that all students and employees must continue weekly testing and must use the Campus Clear App daily. Daily health screening is required by NYS.
If you have questions, please contact any member of the College’s Senior Leadership Team.
Thank you for protecting your health and the health of others. Enjoy what promises to be a beautiful weekend.
Best,
President Drugovich

March 11, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.: Proud of our Hartwick community!
Dear member of our Hartwick campus community,
I am glad to be able to share the news that after COVID-19 testing of every campus-based, test-eligible Hartwick student and employee this week, only two positive COVID tests (both students) have been detected. In addition, three positive cases were found among students who were already in required quarantine off-campus.
This result reflects an intentional effort by every member of our community to limit the spread of COVID-19. If you are reading this email, you had a role in this success. Thank you for caring for yourself and others.
This is the way we beat COVID until everyone has access to a vaccine.
Please also see the attached letter from Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig. Your effort to control COVID is being noticed in the community and is appreciated.
I am very proud of our Hartwick community. I hope that you are too.
Best,
President Drugovich
March 10, 2021 at 2:23 p.m.: Documenting your COVID-19 vaccination
Dear member of our Hartwick Community,
As I noted today during my Covid Conversation with employees, the vaccine environment – and all of the guidance for those who have been vaccinated – is shifting rapidly.
The State has now made participation in some activities contingent on vaccination and/or testing. It has also updated its travel guidance with special rules for those who are vaccinated. The CDC has issued post-vaccine guidance as well. All of this guidance can be found readily through an online search of keywords.
I want to thank Jeff Barker and Amy Gardner for working together to develop a google-form where you can enter your vaccination information. You can find this form here: https://forms.gle/m5QY9XmktBKG3WSh6. Please submit your vaccination information to this portal.
A relatively small proportion of our campus-based population has been vaccinated to date. For now, all of the College’s current rules regarding testing, travel, quarantine and isolation remain in place. We will continue to evaluate this evolving situation and monitor the guidance by state and federal officials.
Please go to your weekly testing, wear your mask, and keep a safe distance even if you have been fully vaccinated. We will learn much in the coming months about how much the vaccine protects both those who are vaccinated and as well as the unvaccinated with whom they come in contact.
Thank you for caring for one another.
Spring is almost here.
Best,
President Drugovich
March 5, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.: Important COVID update – Q&A: What would happen if Hartwick is required by the State to move to temporary remote instruction because of COVID?
Dear Member of our Hartwick Community,
Last night I enjoyed my meeting with members of our Student Government Association. After reflecting on that conversation, I write to address a few questions that you may have about what would happen if the number of Hartwick COVID cases reached the New York State designated threshold of 100 active COVID-19 cases across a 14 day rolling average and the College was then required to move to 14 (calendar) days of remote instruction and activities.
If we reach the threshold of 100 active COVID-19 cases, using a 14 day rolling average, and therefore were required to move to 14 calendar days of remote instruction and activities:
Q1: Would students be sent home?
A1: No, residence halls would remain open and students would be welcome and encouraged to remain on campus.
Q2: Would the campus be “closed?”
A2: No, the campus would remain open to all students, faculty and staff who have approved access for the Spring term. While a final determination would be made at the time and be sensitive to the associated circumstances, we expect that many normal campus operations would continue. Employees who would normally be on campus, and are part of our regular COVID testing program, would be permitted to continue to work on campus.
Q3: What would change for students during the 14 days of remote instruction?
A3: As mandated by New York State:
1) There would be a temporary 14-day suspension of in-person learning; during this time all instruction would be virtual.
2) Dining services would be take-out only (with continued delivery to students in isolation or quarantine)
3) In-person athletic events, extracurricular programs, and other non-essential student activities would be suspended.
4) In consultation with the Otsego County Health Department, in-person clinical, laboratory, and research facilities that are required for professional licensure or research activity may be conducted in-person; explicit approval for this continuation would be required.
Q4: Would all students be placed in “quarantine” during the 14 day period of remote instruction?
A4: No. Students who are not already in isolation or quarantine would be permitted to move around the campus. Some closely supervised spaces, such as the library, would remain open, with all current practices regarding social distancing and mask wearing remaining in place.
Q5: Would COVID testing continue during the 14 day period of remote instruction?
A5: We expect that weekly COVID-19 testing would continue for all students and employees during this period.
Q6: Would students be permitted to go home during the 14 day period of remote instruction? If so, would room and board charges be refunded?
A6: We would strongly advise all students to remain on campus during the 14 day period. Students who do choose to go home during the temporary period would be required to go through a formal check-out process before departure; there would also be a formal check-in process upon return that would require COVID testing prior to return and a three day quarantine before return to class. Per the College’s policy, refunds for room and board would not be provided to students who choose to return home during the temporary 14 day period of remote instruction.
Q7: How many active COVID cases are in the Hartwick community at this time?
A7: As of 10 a.m. today, Hartwick had 69 active cases. All students and employees were tested per our normal practice this week. For a second week in a row, there were no new infections found among Hartwick or Aramark employees.
Q8: What else should I know now?
A8: If we are required to move to temporary remote instruction status detailed instructions and information would be sent to you via email. Hartwick has and will continue to follow all federal, New York State and Otsego County Department of Health requirements and best practices. Please note that what I describe above could be modified by the Department of Health, at their discretion, at any time and for the duration of the pandemic.
I hope this Q&A is helpful to you. Please wear your mask and keep a safe distance from others. Please act in ways that protect you and others. As has been the case since last March, you have the power to determine whether in-person learning continues.
Spring, and vaccines for all, are just around the corner. Let’s get through COVID, together.
Best,
President Drugovich
March 2, 2021 at 2:45 a.m.: Important COVID update for all students
It is our goal to maintain in-person instruction and full campus operations through May 29th. As a community we must all continue to do our part to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. The State of New York regulations will require a two-week period of remote instruction if we reach 100 active cases over a 14-day period. Together. we can avoid this from happening if we follow these simple protocols:
Please stay strong and stay well. Be a good community member.
February 24, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.: IMPORTANT NOTICE: Thursday 2/25/21
Dear Colleagues and Students,
Thank you for your cooperation in following today’s one day suspension of congregate activities.
Student testing today revealed 5 additional positive cases. As such, most students who are not already in isolation or quarantine will be permitted to resume normal activity tomorrow, 2/25. In person instruction will resume, and all gathering areas will reopen to most students. Regular meal service will begin with breakfast on Thursday 2/25.
Students who will not be permitted to resume normal activity on Thursday, 2/25 include those few students (residents and commuters) who did not participate in required/scheduled testing yesterday or today:
– If you are a commuter who did not get your required test you must arrive on campus between 9am and 11 am on Thursday 2/25 and proceed to the screening booth. The screener will have your name and you will be directed to a testing station. You will not be permitted to enter campus until a negative test result is secured. If you do not get your negative campus-based test between 9am and 11am tomorrow 2/25 you will not be permitted to return to campus until you secure a negative test from a testing facility off the Hartwick campus; that testing will be at your own expense. Or, for a $100 fee, you can contact the Perrella Health Center at healthcenter@hartwick.edu to arrange a test at a time convenient for the Perrella staff. You will not be permitted to enter the campus until a negative test result is secured. There will be no exceptions.
– If you are a residential student who did not get your required test yesterday or today you must proceed to the Chesebro Room in Dewar Hall between 9am and 11am on Thursday 2/25 to secure a test. You will not be permitted to return to class or use any campus facilities, including dining facilities, until your negative test is secured; check at the door of the Commons for a take-away breakfast box on 2/25. If you do not get your negative campus-based test tomorrow between 9am and 11am you will not be permitted to return to class or use any campus facilities, including dining facilities, until you secure a negative test from a facility off the Hartwick campus; that testing will be at your own expense. Or, for a $100 fee, you can contact the Perrella Health Center at healthcenter@hartwick.edu to arrange a test at a time convenient for the Perrella staff. You will not be permitted to return to class or use any campus facility until a negative test result is secured. There will be no exceptions.
Any student who does not complete their testing obligation will also be subject to student conduct charges.
The inconveniences that we all experienced today were totally avoidable and were the result of the unsafe social choices of relatively few students. Please protect yourself and others: do not go to bars, do not go to parties, do not go to crowded gatherings spaces, do not share automobiles; and always wear your mask. Please follow our COVID-sensitive rules that have been created to protect you and to protect others in our Hartwick community.
To the majority of our campus members who are protecting themselves and protecting others: thank you.
Best,
President Drugovich
February 23, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.: IMPORTANT NOTICE: Wednesday 2/24/21
Dear Colleagues and Students,
On-campus COVID-19 testing of students today revealed an unexpected 23 positive cases. Though these cases seem, for the most part, to be related to unsafe social behavior among groups of students, we are going to take several precautionary steps to protect our community until we assure that we have identified all cases.
First, we will move to remote only instruction for one day only, Wednesday, 2/24/21. Faculty should assure that their students have remote only instructions. Though there is still no evidence of in-class transmission, we do this out of an abundance of caution until we know that we have tested all of our students and have identified all positive cases.
Next, all students who are scheduled to test tomorrow (2/24) should go to their testing. You will have the rapid rather than PCR test so that results are immediate and we can identify whether there are any additional cases.
In addition, all dining will be take-out only for Wednesday, 2/24. Watch for an email with instructions; please note that you will not need to bring your reusable takeout containers. Remote only dining will begin at 8pm tonight.
Finally, all congregate settings (Campbell & Elting Fitness Centers, Binder, Library, Stack Lounge, study rooms, etc.) will be closed for Wednesday 2/24 only. All non-remote activities scheduled for 2/24/21 are postponed.
I regret the inconvenience that these one day changes may cause our students and our employees. I expect that we will be able to resume normal operations on Thursday 2/25. We will communicate with you again at the end of the day tomorrow (Wednesday.)
Thank you for your cooperation. Please continue to follow all of our required safety practices – masking, distancing, hand washing – to protect yourselves and others. If you have questions, please contact your vice president, your faculty member or studentexperience@hartwick.edu.
Thank you.
President Drugovich

Effective immediately, we need any student (residential, commuter or off campus) to complete this Travel Declaration Form prior to leaving the area. This submission will allow you and the College to monitor potential increased exposure to COVID-19 and will help you make informed decisions about travel. Please consult forward.ny.gov and its cluster address/mapping prior to departing to be fully aware of the cluster status of your destination.
In our continued efforts to keep you and the Hartwick College community healthy and safe we need you to not leave the area unless a necessity and if you do need to live that you complete the form.

October 5, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.: Important information about the Hartwick College 2021 J Term and Spring Term
Dear Hartwick Colleagues and Students,
The Strategic Response Team has had a number of discussions about how and when to start the 2021 JTerm and the 2021 Spring term. Many thanks to all of the members of our community who have stepped forward with insights that have helped us to craft a calendar that is responsive to the complexities posed by the COVID-19 virus.
The schedule for the 2021 JTerm and 2021 Spring term will run as follows:
The first day of classes in the 2021 JTerm will be Monday January 18, 2021. Special programming will be provided to commemorate the Dr. Martin Luther King holiday.
The last day of classes in the 2021 JTerm will be Thursday 2/11.
Friday 2/12 will be a break day.
The first day of classes in the 2021 Spring term will be Monday February 15.
There will be five days of break scheduled during the Spring 2021 term. Those days of break will be:
– Tuesday 2/23
– Monday 3/15
– Friday 4/2
– Thursday 4/22
– Wednesday 5/12
The last day of classes in the 2021 Spring term will be Friday May 21.
Exams for the Spring term will be scheduled on Monday 5/24 through Thursday 5/27.
Please see a table that illustrates this schedule at the end of this email.
More details about the JTerm and Spring term, for both students and employees, will follow in the coming weeks. However, please note that, as was the case for fall, our principal mode of instruction will be campus-based and in-person for both JTerm and Spring term, with plans for synchronous remote instruction in each course as community conditions related to the pandemic may require.
A note about breaks: the SRT reflected carefully on the feedback we received about the need for restful breaks during the spring term. We hope that the significantly lengthened December Break (an additional two weeks) will afford all faculty and professional employees the time to prepare for both JTerm and Spring term and will provide a reasonable off-set to the simple three day break between JTerm and Spring term. Given the challenges posed by COVID, the periodic days off throughout the spring term will provide mini-breaks without the complication of having many students leave campus for longer breaks that will require more testing, quarantine and/or isolation upon return.
We have learned so much about how to manage the challenges that come with this pandemic. Though I fully expect that adjustment to the pandemic related conditions will continue throughout spring, we know that we can manage the virus if we each have the will to do so and each of us acts responsibly. You have done a great job so far and our future success – for this term, JTerm, and Spring Term – continues to rest in your hands. Let’s continue to work together to assure that our learning can continue; when we look back on this time, we will be proud of what we accomplished.
Have a great Monday.
Best,
President Drugovich

September 14, 2020 at 11:52 a.m.: Hartwick returns to in-person instruction
Dear Hartwick Student,
I am pleased to announce that Hartwick will return to in-person instruction this Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Faculty will continue to provide remote/hybrid instruction for students who are not on campus.
With the exception of the students currently in precautionary quarantine, those students who have remained on campus these last two weeks will be able to restart in-person classes immediately. Note that a small number of classes will continue to be taught online all semester.
Students who chose to study off campus for the last two weeks will be invited to move back to campus on an appointment-only basis from September 16 through September 23. Students may register here for their appointment. Students who return to campus will be required to 1) complete a pre-arrival form, 2) provide proof of a negative COVID (SARS COV2 PCR) test result from a test that is taken within 72 hours of arrival, and 3) be tested again immediately upon arrival.
Those students who spent the remote-only period in a state that is designated as a New York “hot spot” will not be allowed to return to campus this semester. Students who have elected to study remotely for the entire semester, and those students who were required to leave campus for not honoring their commitment to our Social Compact, will also not be permitted to return to campus.
All students studying on-campus, all approved commuter students, and all faculty and staff working on campus are required to have a SARS COV2 PCR testing every other week through November 20. This testing is available on campus. You will receive a reminder email the day before the test you have scheduled. If you have questions please contact John Czarnecki at czarneckij@hartwick.edu.
We are able to return to in-person instruction because, as individuals, we have taken the threat of the spread of COVID seriously. I am grateful to all students who have adhered to the rules that we put in place to keep everyone safe. Thank you.
It is our intention to continue in-person instruction through November 20. Our ability to continue will be dependent on your compliance with our strict campus COVID guidelines. If we each take our responsibility seriously, we will have a successful and productive fall semester. Our infection rate is less than 1 percent – let’s work together to make our campus an example for others who want to learn together while managing COVID-19.
Thank you.
President Drugovich

September 11, 2020 at 3:12 p.m.: ACTION ITEM – COVID TESTING REQUIREMENTS – MUST READ
The below is a reminder of the COVID testing requirements that Hartwick College has put in place at the beginning of the semester. The requirements have not changed, but there may be some confusion that still exists. All employees who work on campus (full-time, part-time, and occasionally) must get tested every two weeks.
If you have already signed up for all of your tests per the below, you do not need to sign up or change anything. You just need to show up for your appointments!
If you are an individual who has been approved to work 100% fully remote, you are not required to test per these guidelines. If you are unclear as to whether or not you are approved to work 100% remotely, please contact your supervisor or VP.
If you are an individual who is working on campus and/or not officially a remote employee you must test once every two weeks on campus, in Dewar, with our contracted WellNow staff. You cannot substitute a test taken somewhere else. The two week periods are each of the following: 9/14-9/24, 9/28-10/8, 10/12-10/22, and so on through 11/20. Testing occurs Mon-Wed 730a-730p and Thur 730a-330p on the 3rd floor of Dewar.
You must sign up for the rest of your appointments for the semester using the below links. The calendar will not automatically assign you to future dates. You should sign up for one appointment during each two week period – that means you are scheduling more than one test.

If there is a reason to change your appointment, you must follow the link on the calendar invite that is emailed to you after you sign up. You can reschedule and cancel on your own, you do not need assistance to do that. Do not just decline the invite, you must click the appropriate link. Choose days and times that you know will work, because you will have difficulty rescheduling later on.
Please continue to bring a photo ID and your insurance card. As a reminder, you will not be paying anything out of pocket for these tests.
Employees who do not complete the mandatory Covid-19 testing will not be able to work on campus, will be out of compliance with our Social Compact, and will be subject to unpaid suspension.

September 1, 2020 at 1:34 p.m.: Effective Immediately: We Are Switching to Remote Instruction for 14 Days
Because of the sudden and steep increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Oneonta community, and the fact that we now have two Hartwick students who have tested positive, we have made the decision to switch to all-remote instruction for the next 14 days. This change is effective immediately and will continue through September 15. All faculty should immediately take the necessary steps to implement this change at the start of your next scheduled class.
We are taking this step as a precautionary measure to protect the health of our campus-based community. This adaptation is consistent with our Reopening Plan.
Both Hartwick students who have tested positive are isolating at their homes (not on campus). Even so, we know that they each had contact with others. Contact tracing is being conducted by the Department of Health with the assistance of the Perrella Health Center and continues. We want to take every step that we can now to stop possible further spread of the virus.
We will reevaluate this decision in 14 days.
Residential students should plan to remain on campus. At this time, dining remains available in the Commons and through all previously established take-out options. Students not in quarantine will continue to have access to the campus and its facilities.
Our campus based testing protocol (every two weeks until November 20) will continue. If you have any concerns about your health or potential exposure, I encourage you to also take advantage of the rapid testing sites that have been established by NYS in Oneonta. These sites are located at:
You must call for an appointment. The number to call is 833-697-8764. It has been reported that these sites will be available through Saturday, but you must have an appointment.

August 31, 2020 at 1:31 p.m.: On Campus Testing Update – Additional Times Available
Good afternoon,
We need your help. Your attention to detail while signing up and arriving for your testing appointments will make things easier and more safe for everyone.
The entire campus community is required to be tested every-other-week unless you have been approved to study or work remotely.
First, choose either Group A or B. This is your group for the whole semester.
Please pick Group A if possible to assist in balance of appointments.
Group A means you make an appointment for each of the weeks 8/31, 9/14, 9/28, and so on until the end of the semester. You need to book 6 total appointments for the semester.
https://calendly.com/hartwickcollege/hartwickgroupa
Additional times for Group A have been added here:
https://calendly.com/hartwicktests/extragroupa
Group B testing means you will select one time during each of the weeks 9/7, 9/21, 10/5 and so on until the end of the semester. You need to book 6 total appointments for the semester.
https://calendly.com/hartwickcollege/groupb
Additional times for Group B have been added here:
https://calendly.com/extragroupb/groupb
After you have signed up for 6 tests there is nothing left to do but show up on time!
Please do not cancel appointments unless unavoidable as they slow things down for everyone. Also, be sure to “Cancel” not just say “No” to the email invitation when canceling. The cancel option is right in the description of the calendar invite you receive for each appointment made.
Thank you very much!
August 30, 2020 at 9:36 p.m.: COVID-19 Case confirmation on Hartwick Campus
Tonight, the College determined that a student has tested positive for COVID-19, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 on the Hartwick campus.
The student has returned home to isolate. The affected student will be able to resume normal activities upon the express approval of the Department of Health (DOH). The DOH is responsible for contract tracing and will notify individuals with whom she/he may have had contact.
The College’s leadership and the Strategic Response team have been preparing for this possibility since March 2020. Today’s quick response to this case is the result of the significant effort that our campus has invested in our Fall 2020 Reopening Campus Plan.
This pandemic has been, and will continue to be, a challenge. Hartwick is strong and prepared to meet this newest test as a community that cares for its members.
Thank you for taking care of yourself, for following our Social Compact, and for supporting one another.
For questions or concerns please contact Perrella Health Center at healthcenter@hartwick.edu.
August 28, 2020 at 3:40 p.m.: Hartwick College Strengthens Campus Visitation Policy
Hartwick College today announced it is changing its visitation policy by limiting public access to the campus. With the number of reported COVID-19 cases increasing over the past week in Oneonta and Otsego County, the College has decided to restrict the number and types of people allowed on campus.
This is a precautionary step only. There are no reported cases of COVID-19 on the Hartwick campus.
Effective immediately, only the following persons are permitted on the College’s 425-acre private property (including Table Rock and Strawberry Fields, Elmore Field and running track, and the Pine Lake Environmental Campus):
The campus is closed to all other visitors until further notice. Anyone found in violation of this order will be charged with trespassing.
In an e-mail to the student body this morning, Vice President for Enrollment & Student Experience Karen McGrath said, “We will continue to take every necessary step to ensure that you can remain on campus through November 20, and receive face-to-face instruction whenever possible. Our collective success will depend on your actions.”
The College further reminded students to wear masks at all times while on campus, unless in private spaces such as residential hall rooms or cars. If students refuse to wear masks on campus, they will be sent home. Students are also being asked to be respectful of the Oneonta community by wearing masks and limiting their time off campus.
The College’s opening Wick Week continues through Sunday. Tonight, the annual Opening Convocation will be held virtually. Pre-recorded presentations and remarks by President Margaret L. Drugovich, faculty and staff will air at 7 p.m. through the College’s webpage.
August 27, 2020 at 2:49 p.m.: Join the Advocacy Effort for Student Financial Aid
The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) has announced that 20% of student aid award payments will be withheld, including the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) awards. New York State reports it is facing a $14 billion revenue shortfall due to Covid-19. NYS Governor Cuomo has said that if the federal government does not provide sufficient aid directly to states through the next relief package that these withholdings will not be reversed.
In response, the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) is activating their e-advocacy platform, so that students and members of the campus community can reach out to their state legislators to let them know how important this financial aid is. There are more than 60,000 TAP recipients in the NYS private higher education sector alone. Every message will have a tremendous impact.
It only takes 5 minutes.
The e-advocacy letter can be found at this link.
Students, please note:
If you choose, you can send this message from your home address and/or your Hartwick College address, ensuring that all legislators who represent you get this important message.
Thank you for your assistance,
Lisa Iannello
Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations for Hartwick College

All of the previous information applies but some helpful and important tips are below. Making changes will be difficult, please do not count on having flexibility to adjust unless there is an absolute emergency.
Thank you,
Will I be responsible for any costs associated with these tests?
No. Your insurance will be billed, and any uncovered amount (up to and including the full cost) will be covered by Hartwick College. You may receive an Explanation of Benefits from your provider outlining “your responsibility” but you should not receive a bill for anything. If on the off chance you do receive a bill, please scan and forward a copy to healthcenter@hartwick.edu and it will be handled appropriately.
Can I be tested if I have been approved for remote work or studying?
If you have been approved to work or study remotely, you should not sign up for these tests because you are not permitted to access campus. If you have already done so, please contact czarneckij@hartwick.edu to have your appointment removed.
August 25, 2020 at 11:26 a.m.: Important Screening Update for Employees
Effective immediately, faculty and staff who leave campus for lunch (or other appointments) will need to go back through the screening checkpoint upon return to campus. Please be prepared to show your #CampusClear app “Good to Go” result to the screener, receive a quick temperature check, and then you may proceed onto campus. No employee may enter campus without first going through the screening process at a checkpoint.
As a reminder, Aramark has dining options available as an alternative to going off campus for lunch. Employees may use Hawks Money with the discount at all food locations. Mobile ordering begins on Monday, August 31 and employees will have an opportunity to order through an app in Table Rock Cafe and The Commons. The app and further details will be sent out this week. If you have any questions about dining services, please reach out to Devin White, at whited@hartwick.edu.
In an effort to keep each other safe, if you are comfortable doing so, if you see a community member without their mask on or who are not socially distancing, please give them a friendly reminder.
Thank you for all that you do to help assure for a safe reopening.

August 21, 2020 at 4:12 p.m.: Testing FAQ
Testing FAQ for STUDENTS
Dear Hartwick Students,
There have been some good questions received since yesterday’s sign up email, please see below for some important information and clarifications. If you have not signed up already, please take a moment to choose a time! All students and employees who are on campus must be tested this week.
If I do not have my insurance card, what can I do?
Having your physical insurance card is ideal, but if you do not have that but you can get a picture of the front and back to bring with you and show on your phone, that will suffice.
Is the time slot I picked my “permanent” time slot for the semester?
No. The slot that you picked will be for this week only. On Tuesday (8/25) you will receive an email with links to a new calendar that you can choose your times for the rest of the semester. That will be the only other signup you will be asked to complete regarding testing during the fall semester. Specific directions for signing up for the remainder of the semester will be included in that email.
Can I be tested if I have been approved for remote work or studying?
If you have been approved to work or study remotely, you should not sign up for these tests because you are not permitted to access campus. If you have already done so, please contact czarneckij@hartwick.edu to have your appointment removed.
If I am an approved commuter student, do I have to sign up for a test?
Unless you will be on campus throughout the week, you do not have to sign up for this current session. However, you must test on your first day of classes. Sign up for that will come on the 25th.
Can I change my time slot that I have already chosen for this week?
Please do not make any changes on the same day of your appointment, rosters for the day will have already been printed. If your appointment is the next day or further out AND you are picking a new time that is at least the next day, you can make that new appointment. But you must email czarneckij@hartwick.edu and request that your old appointment be removed from the calendar. Please do your best to pick a time you know will work and limit the changes as much as possible.
Can I switch appointments with someone else?
Please do not switch appointments, as this will cause confusion and the potential to mark you “not present” on the day you have signed up for.
Thank you in advance for helping make this process run smoothly. Please continue to check your Hartwick email for any new information that may come out.

In the email that went out to employees, the first bullet point about testing on the day you arrive was inadvertently left in from the student email. Thank you in advance for helping make this process run smoothly. Please continue to check your Hartwick email for any new information that may come out.

August 5, 2020 at 12:24 p.m.: Required Action Revised
We have learned from a number of students, parents, and families that the requirement for all students to provide the College with evidence of negative results from SARS-COV-2 PCR testing within a maximum of 5 days prior to arrival on the Hartwick campus may not be possible.
Therefore, Hartwick is modifying its testing requirement to provide evidence of negative results from SARS-COV-2 PCR testing within a maximum of 14 days prior to arrival on the Hartwick campus. All students (including those who live on campus and those who live off campus but will attend in-person classes) must present this evidence.
Modified Timeline:
For returning students who live off campus but will attend classes in person, testing must be performed on or later than August 17, which is within a maximum of 14 days prior to the August 31 start of classes.
For first-year students who live off campus but will attend classes in person, testing must be performed within a maximum of 14 days prior to the first day on campus, which is within a maximum of 14 days of arrival for any orientation activities prior to the first week of class.
Students must present proof of their negative test results at the check-in station upon arrival on campus. Please note: students may be subject to future testing.
Hartwick will host an online Forum about the testing requirement for students, parents, and families on Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m. You will receive an invitation to attend.
Should you have questions about this testing requirement, please contact the Perrella Health Center at healthcenter@hartwick.edu

With on-campus educational programs planned for the fall 2020 semester—if a change in COVID related circumstances requires a shift to remote learning, will tuition and fees be reduced?
The COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic continues to create risks and uncertainties associated with on-campus educational programs of colleges and universities. The potential continuing impacts of the pandemic are not fully foreseeable, and may impact the feasibility and/or structure of on-campus learning. The tuition rates charged by the College are not dependent on the format of the educational programs for which they are payable. Accordingly, if the College is required to alter the structure of its on-campus educational programs or transition students to remote learning models (in whole or in part) due to restrictions imposed by federal, state or local governmental authorities or applicable law, or if the College determines such action to be warranted in light of continuing or potential impacts of the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic, no reduction or refund of tuition will be made based on the resulting changes to the programs in which students are enrolled.
July 2, 2020 at 4:53 p.m.
On June 24, 2020, Governor Cuomo announced that along with New Jersey and Connecticut, New York State would be joining an initiative that requires all individuals traveling to NY, NJ, or CT from states identified as high-risk for community spread of COVID-19 to quarantine for a 14-day period upon their arrival.
Additionally, on June 30, 2020, the Governor announced that he signed a new executive order that makes any New York employee who voluntarily travels to high-risk states after June 25, 2020 ineligible for COVID-19 paid sick leave benefits. A 14 day, state imposed, self-quarantine is now required for people traveling to NY from: AL, AR, AZ, CA, FL, GA, IA, ID, LA, MS, NC, NV, SC, TN, TX, UT. This includes residents of NY who have traveled to one of these states.
If employees travel to any of the states noted above, they will not be allowed to enter campus until they have completed the state-mandated 14 day self-quarantine. This list will change. Employees should monitor NYS developments and act accordingly. They can do this at http://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory. Employees who are affected by this must contact their supervisors about alternative work arrangements.
The Emergency COVID-19 leave request form has been updated to reflect this eligibility provision. Moving forward, employees requesting COVID-19 related leave will be asked if they have traveled to one of the states on the travel advisory list identified by New York State.
If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Human Resources at humres@hartwick.edu.

Hello Hawks! We miss you and can’t wait to have you back on campus!
As President Drugovich shared in her weekly video messages, we will bring students back to campus in stages, from Saturday, August 22 through Sunday, August 30. Classes will begin Monday, August 31 and on-campus instruction will end Friday, November 20.
Our new One Hartwick campaign will help you navigate the return to campus and answer many of your questions and clarify expectations, from face masks to social distancing, classes to cuisine.
Before we return, however, every member of the Hartwick community must sign Our Social Compact: A Healthy Hartwick College, as the president described in her weekly videos. Making this commitment will help keep us all safe as we move forward with the upcoming school year.
We will continue to send you updates and reminders via e-mail and text in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can access Hartwick’s Reopening Our Campus resources webpage for more information.
For now, stay strong, stay safe, and be well. We look forward to seeing you all in August!
