Hartwick College Athletics will host its annual Wine & Beer Tasting Reception & Benefit Auction from 6:30 – 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 4 at the Stella Luna Ristorante, 58 Market St. in Oneonta. Admission is $40 per person; $70 per couple. Proceeds from the event will benefit the athletics program and enhance the scholar-athlete experience.
Now in its 14th year, the annual event typically raises more than $35,000 for Hartwick College Athletics, bringing together more than 150 alumni, parents, and friends of Hartwick College, including scores of local community supporters.
“The Wine & Beer Tasting Reception & Benefit Auction is such an important event for our department,” said Hartwick College Athletic Director Kim Fierke. “It brings together the local community and other friends of the College to support the experience of our scholar-athletes. Our teams benefit directly from this event because it affords us the ability to provide an enhanced athletic experience. This could not happen without all of those who love Hartwick athletics.”
A variety of “live” and “silent” items will be available during the auction. The live items are high-value pieces, which will be auctioned by Stella Luna co-owner Vincenzo Avanzato. Silent items will be on display throughout the evening.
For the first time, one does not need to attend to participate; proxy bidding will be available for the live auction this year. To secure a proxy bidder, contact Athletics Giving Officer Duncan Macdonald ’78 at 607-431-4032 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Guests who are present can sample food and drinks – provided throughout the evening by numerous beverage distributors – as they consider their bids.
The Wine & Beer Tasting Reception & Benefit Auction is renowned for the limited-edition wines put up for auction. Top items include a package featuring four bottles of Domaine La Barroche Chateneauf-du-Pape Signature, 2008, valued at more than $1,100. Foreign and domestic wines from Robert Mondavi, Francis Ford Coppola, and a robust selection from world-renowned vineyards will be also available.
Sports enthusiasts will have opportunities to gain rare access to professional sports venues. Baseball fans could go home with four tickets to the EMC Suite at Fenway Park when the Boston Red Sox play the New York Yankees on Saturday, July 15. Four box seats are available at Yankee Stadium, for the game versus the Los Angeles Angels on June 21, as are two VIP seats for the Yankees-Milwaukee Brewers game on July 9.
Football fans could win four tickets to see Syracuse University battle Clemson in an important Atlantic Coast Conference game on October 13, or tickets to see the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Dallas (exact game TBD).
NASCAR fans could win two seats on the start/finish line for a Sprint Cup race in July at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, or tickets and roundtrip luxury coach travel to a race at Dover (NH) International Speedway in October.
Golfers can vie for exclusive packages at Hobe Sound (FL) Golf Club; the Turtle Creek Club in Tequesta, FL; and Leatherstocking Golf Course & Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, NY. The auction will also feature a full set of prototype Miura irons with Accra Premium and True Temper shafts — with three-hour custom fitting — valued at $2,500.
This year, travel getaways include a six-day/night South African safari adventure, featuring three gourmet meals and tours into the African savannah. This rare opportunity is valued at nearly $6,000. Other excursions available are a week-long timeshare in Key West, FL, and a three-night stay for two at a cabin in the Adirondacks.
Other live auction items available include an iPad Pro, tickets and roundtrip transportation to see “Hello Dolly” on Broadway, tickets to Cirque Du Soleil, jewelry, and furniture.
Auction items have been generously donated by local and regional businesses, alumni, and friends of the College.
RSVPs are requested by April 28, and can be made at www.hartwickalumni.org/wine17.
