Hartwick College Theatre Arts Program Presents Chicago

The Hartwick College Theatre Arts Program is pleased to announce its spring main stage musical production of Chicago, by Fred Ebb, Bob Fosse, David Thompson, John Kander and Maurine Dallas Watkins. The production will run for two weekends, April 14 to 16 and April 21 to 23, with performances at 8 p.m. each night in Slade Theatre, Yager Hall, on the College campus. Admission is $5 for the Hartwick community (and all local students with a school ID), and $10 for the general public.

Samuel French Inc., which publishes and licenses plays and musicals, summarizes Chicago’s plot: “In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover … Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another ‘Merry Murderess’ Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the ‘American Dream:’ fame, fortune and acquittal.”

Chicago is directed by Hartwick Associate Professor and Director of Theatre Arts Malissa Kano-White with musical direction by Matthew Downey. The production is also choreographed by Alyssa Lundberg ’16 with scenic and lighting design by Joanna Carber ’16. Lundberg and Carber’s work on Chicago will complete their senior theses for the theatre arts major. The cast includes Kent Benwell ’17, Jessica Bonasera ’16, Corey Buckley ’16, Brian Cook ’16, Erin Corah ’18, Tonie Cross ’17, Alyssa Fox ’16, Dorothy Garcia ’18, Tashiem Jordan ’17, Rhiannon LaCross, Taylor Morin ’17, Madison Noel ’19, Lindsey Partelow ’17, Riley Phillips ’17, Alyssa Ralph ’17, Connor Riley ’18, Carlos Silva ’18, Gavin Smith ’19, and Abbey Vermeal ’18. The production is Stage Managed by Chelsea Jacobson ’18 with assistance from Megan Steely ’16 and Josie Worley ‘19.

Chicago has also been submitted as an associate entry for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
