Hartwick College to Sponsor 6th Empty Bowls Event

November 10, 2016

Hartwick College will sponsor the sixth “Empty Bowls” event – a grassroots movement which aims to help raise awareness of hunger and poverty in local communities – on Tuesday, November 15 at Roots Brewing Company in Oneonta. There will be two seatings for 60 attendees, one at 5 p.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m. The event costs $25 per person/seating, and is open to the public; tickets are limited, and advanced purchases are recommended.

Students in the ceramics studio at Hartwick, along with the Clay Club, students, families, friends and members of the community from recent Bowl-A-Rama events, have created more than roughly 300 handmade bowls for this year’s fundraiser.

With the $25 donation, participants will receive a handmade bowl to fill with soup. The Department of Art and Art History and following local restaurants and organizations are assisting in making this year’s event possible:

  • Dietz & Wall Wines
  • Hannaford Markets
  • Humphrey’s Gourmet to Go
  • The Red Caboose Restaurant & Bar
  • Roots Brewing Company

Everything is donated for this event, ensuring all proceeds will again go to The Lord’s Table at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Oneonta, which provides meals free-of-charge five nights a week to community members in need.

“Over the course of the last five years through the Empty Bowls Project, Hartwick students have been able to make an impact in our local community,” said Hartwick College Associate Professor of Art Stephanie Rozene, the event organizer. “Together we have raised over $10,000 to help raise awareness and eradicate hunger in Oneonta.”

Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased directly from Rozene, at Roots Brewing Company, The Red Caboose Restaurant & Bar, or Dietz & Wall Wines in downtown Oneonta. Tickets will be available on a first come first serve basis until sold out, and checks may be made payable to “The Lord’s Table.”
