Hartwick Continues Honors Convocation Tradition May 3

April 26, 2017

On April 24, 1940, Hartwick College’s “Scholastic Honor Day” began as a community-wide event in which faculty, staff, students and parents convened to announce the academic accomplishments of the student body.

Now, 77 years later, the tradition continues. Today, while the event is named “Honors Convocation,” the intent of the ceremony remains. The event serves to recognize exceptional academic achievement, celebrating excellence in scholarship.

The 2017 Honors Convocation Ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3 in Lambros Arena, Binder Physical Education Center, on the College campus. Hartwick College President Margaret L. Drugovich and members of the Hartwick College community will convene to honor and congratulate the recipients of more than 125 awards as well as Faculty Scholars, Honors Program and Honors Society students, and John Christopher Hartwick Scholars.

“The Hartwick students who will be honored are accomplished women and men who have taken full advantage of this remarkable educational experience,” said Drugovich. “Through international travel, research, service, and scholarship, they have found laudable success. It is a true pleasure to recognize and celebrate them.”

Invitations to Award Honorees have been placed in campus mailboxes. Awardees are welcome to invite as many family members and other guests as they wish. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

For those who can’t attend the ceremony in person, the event will be accessible via webcast on the Honors Convocation webpage at www.hartwick.edu/honorsconvocation.

Student honorees and families are asked to RSVP for the event at honorsconvocation@hartwick.edu.
