January 22, 2018

Hartwick College Campus Safety Officer Casey Cole of Tully, NY was recently recognized by the United States Navy for her exemplary service. On October 15, 2017, the Secretary of the Navy awarded Cole the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal as the Reserve Junior Sailor of the Year for the Naval Operations Support Center in Syracuse, NY.

Cole earned the award for her “exceptional professionalism, unrelenting perseverance, and loyal devotion to duty.”

Her commendation cited, in part, her “leadership and initiative were instrumental in the onboarding and integration of 24 sailors and ensured sailors were provided a sponsor and mentor.” Additionally, Cole was acknowledged for “fostering a unit of inclusiveness and engagement” and her work resulted in a “20 percent increase in administrative readiness and program compliance.”

“I am extremely honored and humbled to receive this award,” she said. “I do what I do with the Navy because I love my country and I love the Navy.”

Cole is a Construction Mechanic (Seabee) Petty Officer Second Class (E-5) in the U.S. Naval Reserves, and has served for three years. She joined Hartwick in July 2017.

Cole’s supervisor, Director of Campus Safety Thomas Kelly, said, “We are very proud of Casey and congratulate her on receiving this award. The leadership skills that the U.S. Navy has recognized Casey for are evident to us on a daily basis, and one of the reasons she is such a great addition to Hartwick’s campus.”
