Hartwick College earned its title as one of the nation’s Colleges of Distinction today for its committed implementation of High-Impact Educational Practices. The College’s nursing and business programs were also given special acknowledgment.
The Colleges of Distinction website and guidebook have honored schools throughout the U.S. for their excellence in undergraduate-focused higher education since 2000. Hartwick joins a group of just 375 colleges nationwide that the organization feels are “at the forefront of American higher education with a modern, student-centered approach to teaching.”
Colleges of Distinction identified ten high-impact educational practices that prepare graduates for a rapidly changing global society and Hartwick embodies all ten best practices.
“At Hartwick, we believe that knowledge is meant to be applied,” explains Chief Marketing Officer Monica Calzolari. “We are anxious for more families to know about Hartwick’s unique learning environment, our community-based service learning classes, our Three-Year Degree program, our unique faculty-led study abroad trips during January Term, our annual Student Showcase featuring collaborative research between our students and faculty, our Griffiths Center for Collaboration & Innovation and our Center for Craft Food & Beverage.”
Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of a review of each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, alumni success, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more. Schools are accepted based on their strength in four areas: engaged students, teaching, having a vibrant community, and successful outcomes.
“We are absolutely thrilled to recognize Hartwick as a ‘College of Distinction’ for its effective dedication to student success,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. “We are so impressed with Hartwick’s curriculum, which is enriched with the kind of high-impact educational practices that are most crucial for student development. Such innovative engagement is preparing the next generation of young adults to thrive after college.”
“The Colleges of Distinction affirms what Hartwick College students, alumni, faculty and staff have long known, that our Liberal Arts in Practice curriculum prepares students for a lifetime of opportunities well beyond their first job out of college.” Calzolari added. “We look forward to building upon these strengths and enhancing our reputation as a College of Distinction.”
