Music & Music Education

Your development as a musician involves more than time spent in a practice room. A liberal arts education allows for  experiences that broadly deepen musical understanding and expression.

At Hartwick, music students have many opportunities to apply their knowledge of music through student teaching placements to studying abroad to innovative student-faculty collaborative projects. Each student has the opportunity to create unique musical learning experiences. Hartwick music students are innovative and imaginative individuals who are committed to the study and practice of music and music learning.

At Hartwick, the music faculty create an inclusive and collaborative environment among students, faculty, and staff that fosters productive working relationships. Faculty help students discover and define their interests while supporting and guiding their talents in new ways. Faculty expect and encourage strong motivation and an enthusiasm to learn, create, and work with others.

The Department of Music at Hartwick College is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and is a member of NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association), NYSACMP (New York State Association of College Music Programs), and Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.
