“I worked at an organization called Centro de Atencion Integral para la Discapacidad (CAID – The Center for Integral Attention for Disability—a priority of First Lady Cándida Montilla de Medina). The organization provides services for children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and autism spectrum disorders. Each day I shadowed psychologists and psych therapists while they evaluated children. It was unlike any experience I’ve had before.”
“I grew immensely as person as a result of my time spent at the center and in the Dominican Republic. I not only learned a lot more about this amazing country and its culture, I also worked on my Spanish skills in a home environment because my host mom only spoke Spanish.”
I learned so much about who I am and I’m so thankful the Emerson Foundation gave me this opportunity!”
