Hartwick College Recognized in 2027 U.S. News Rankings and National College Guides
College ranks No. 15 in newly assigned U.S. News category, earns recognition from The Princeton Review, Fiske and Niche
Hartwick College has earned a No. 15 ranking among Regional Colleges in the North in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best College rankings. The College also ranks No. 8 among private institutions in the region, No. 12 for Best Value and No. 22 for Social Mobility.
The rankings reflect significant changes U.S. News introduced for 2027, including the adoption of an updated classification system developed by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education. The system groups colleges and universities according to their academic programs and institutional characteristics. As a result of the changes, approximately 20% of previously ranked institutions moved into different categories.
Hartwick, previously ranked among National Liberal Arts Colleges, is now included in the Regional Colleges North category. The change follows Carnegie’s reclassification of Hartwick to a Mixed Baccalaureate institution.
The new classification comes as Hartwick continues to expand its academic offerings while maintaining its liberal arts foundation. In recent years, the College has introduced undergraduate programs in fields including cybersecurity, physical education teacher education and sport management, along with new graduate programs in business and education.
Beyond U.S. News, Hartwick continues to receive recognition in several national college guides and rankings.
