This college town balances history with contemporary culture, nightlife with nature, fine dining with grab-and-go munchies. Albany International Airport is nearby and Trailways bus service also connects Hartwick to major cities and destinations nationwide. Keynotes and Special Sessions

This year’s keynotes and special sessions will frame discussions and inspire attendees. Our speakers will provide a platform for discussing challenges and opportunities, emerging trends and the future of higher education. We are confident that their energy will inspire and motivate.

Annual Conference Keynote Speaker: Mike McIntire

Mike McIntire is a three-time Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter at The New York Times. Since joining The New York Times in 2003, he has worked for the national investigations unit and the metro desk, producing stories on a wide range of subjects, including presidential politics, terrorism, Wall Street bailouts, and the NRA.

He has been a part of investigative teams reporting on a variety of historic and influential events.  McIntire was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for reporting that led to his book, “Champions Way: Football, Florida and the Lost Soul of College Sports,” which explores corruption in college sports.  

Mike McIntire graduated from Hartwick College with a degree in political science in 1985.  He is one of the inaugural members of the Hartwick Institute of Public Service Leadership Council.

Coming Together Keynote Speaker: Tim Fields

Timothy Fields has spent the past 25 years working in various areas of higher education, primarily in enrollment management at Emory University, where he currently serves as the senior associate dean for undergraduate admission. Timothy is also the co-author of the bestselling college admission resource The Black Families Guide to College Admissions: A Conversation about Education, Parenting, and Race.

In this role, he serves as a leadership team member for the recruitment, evaluation, and construction of the first-year class for Emory University, including students who will eventually matriculate to Goizueta Business School and the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. In addition to his work in enrollment management, he has also worked in student affairs, residential life, athletics, and with several Federal TRiO programs at two-year, state flagship, and private institutions.

Beyond his work in higher education, Timothy has worked with several Non-Profit and Community Based Organizations that include 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Chicago Scholars, UPS Foundation, Jack Kent Cooke, National Merit Corporation, United Negro College Fund, the Gates Foundation, and currently a Board Member for TDI (Turning Dreams into Reality). He has also done work with the Division of Family and Children Services helping students in foster care gain access to college, as well as other community initiatives.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Timothy earned a BA in Psychology from Morehouse College, M.Ed from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and has completed all doctoral work at Georgia State University. His academic interests include HBCUs, post-secondary access of under-represented populations, and supporting Black male initiatives. When not working, Timothy is a husband, father of twins, avid runner, traveler, and entrepreneur.

College tours are reserved for high school/CBO/independent counselors, and college admission professionals who work directly with transfer students.The tours are aimed at providing information that will help support prospective students and their supporters in learning more about specific colleges and universities. Attendees can register for a college tour on the conference registration form.

Please note: There is a $10 non-refundable fee to reserve your place on one of the college tours, apart from the Hartwick College tours.

The Silent Auction proceeds will fund scholarship opportunities for students and the many educational and professional development forums and conferences NYSACAC supports. These programs directly impact high school and college students and their pursuit of higher education. Bidding begins Tuesday, June 3rd at 9:00 AM and closes Thursday, June 5th at 1:00 PM.
