Joseph Algieri ’27

2026-2027 Grow America Fellow

Joseph Algieri ’27 (Huntington, NY) is a double major in business administration and economics, a member of the men’s football team, and a member of the fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon. Joe’s academic excellence has been recognized through regular Dean’s List and Empire 8 President’s List inclusion and through ongoing receipt of the Phillip S. Wilder Award for Academic Distinction. Additionally, Joe was selected to participate in Hartwick’s Sports Analytics Partnership where he applied his knowledge of econometrics and his keen empirical skills to measure the effect of leadoff batter and pitch type on scoring outcomes for the Hartwick College women’s softball team.

Joe’s interest in community engagement to foster small businesses success was developed through many years of work at his parent’s own small business and through his long-standing volunteer position for Huntington Unified Basketball as an assistant coach helping those with disabilities play basketball and find inclusion. Joe attributes his composure and ability to adapt quickly to new situations to being employed at his parents’ restaurant during busy holiday seasons. He believes that his engagement with the Special Olympics program strengthened his teamwork and patience.

Joe looks forward to challenging himself and meeting new people through the Grow America internship. He hopes to create friendships that continue beyond the Fellowship as he comes to better understand the causes and solutions to small business economic struggles and as he learns from his Grow America colleagues how to make a meaningful impact within communities.
