Purpose
Policy #6.16: To ensure safety and compliance with applicable laws, this policy details weapons and materials that are prohibited on Hartwick College property.

Policy Scope
This policy applies to all employees (regardless of employment type) students and visitors.

Violations

It is a violation of the New York Penal Code and College regulations to possess, transport, or use dangerous weapons, instruments, or substances on the College campus, except by law enforcement officers or as specifically authorized in writing by the President of the College. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to:

  • Firearms and ammunition, including rifles, BB guns, pellet guns, paintball guns, and shotguns.
  • Any knife that could be deemed dangerous, regardless of size, including butterfly, switchblade, gravity, hunting, lock back blade and ballistic knives.
  • Billy clubs, swords, bows, arrows, throwing stars, slingshots, etc.
  • Fireworks, firecrackers, explosives, or any and all chemicals that possess or can be made to possess volatile explosive or dangerous properties, except for use in College laboratories under faculty or staff supervision.

Violations of this policy will be considered immediate and serious threats to the safety and welfare of the Hartwick community and may result in the temporary removal of the alleged violator from campus pending an investigation. Violations may be referred to criminal justice authorities and/or subject to disciplinary action.
