First-Year (Freshmen)

I'm very proud to welcome you to Hartwick College! I hope that in the weeks and months ahead, you'll decide to join us on Oyaron Hill, and to find with us a new home and a bright, promising future.

There are dozens of things I could tell you about Hartwick, but I've trimmed the list down to the Top Ten Things You Should Know. Please check this out to help you in your college search. Above all, you should know that Hartwick is one of the best colleges in the country, this according to U.S. News & World Report, Fiske Guide to Colleges, Forbes, Washington Monthly, and The Princeton Review, among others. They all put us on their annual "best colleges" lists.

We're proud of our stellar academic reputation. Hartwick's eminent faculty members are widely praised for their scholarship and research, and their expertise is passed on to their students in our outstanding classrooms, labs, and studios. With an 11-to-1 student/faculty ratio-one of the lowest in the Northeast-our students work side-by-side with their faculty mentors on cutting-edge research in small, personal courses that go far beyond learning from a book.

We're proud of our students, 1500 of them in all, completing degrees in 31 majors, 35 minors, four pre-professional programs and five cooperative programs. . 60% of them study abroad, and about half complete career-related internships. One in three is a varsity athlete. And many are completing their degrees in three quarters the time and at three quarters the cost through Hartwick's nationally-acclaimed Three Year Degree Program.

And they are incredibly successful after graduation. According to payscale.com, Hartwick ranks 50th in the nation among liberal arts colleges for average starting salary ($42,600). 93% of our pre-law students and admitted to law school, and our pre-med students are admitted to medical schools at twice the national average.
