Middle States Accreditation
The periodic reaccreditation process with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) is underway.
Every eight years, Hartwick College undergoes a process to reaffirm its accreditation by submitting a Self-Study Report to the Middle States Commission, followed by a campus visit by a team of peer evaluators assembled by the Commission from colleges and universities that are similar to Hartwick.
The Self-Study is our opportunity to tell our story and highlight our strengths and plans for growth and forward momentum. Working Groups of faculty, staff, and students will analyze data about Hartwick throughout Fall 2026 and the Self-Study Steering Committee will provide opportunities throughout the year for the campus community to contribute their perspectives.
Accreditation Timeline
The reaccreditation process takes place every eight years and involves two stages of evaluation: a campus-wide Self Study, and an on-site evaluation by a team of experts from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Our last accreditation report and visit occurred in 2018-19. This means we will be submitting our next Self-Study Report in spring 2027, with the external review team’s campus visit in fall 2027.
Identification of institutional priorities; drafting and approval of the Self Study Design; assembly of data and documents into an evidence library; and formation of the Steering Committee and Working Groups.
The Steering Committee leads the analysis of evidence and drafting of reports on each Standard by the Working Groups. Then, the Self-Study Co-Chairs and Steering Committee synthesize the reports into a draft Self-Study, which will be shared with the campus community and revised according to community feedback. Final Self-Study submitted to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in spring, followed by campus visit by External Review Team Chair.
Campus visit by Middle States’ appointed External Review Team in fall, with deadline for third-party comments about Hartwick to Middle States on December 1, 2027.
