Hartwick Announces EmpowerU Program, Offering College Experience to Individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities

Hartwick College has announced the launch of EmpowerU, a program designed to provide individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities a comprehensive college experience.

Partnering with local agencies, Springbrook, The Arc Otsego and the Arc of Delaware County, EmpowerU will offer an opportunity to gain valuable skills, build social connections and explore the vibrant energy of college life.

Through the program, which is set to launch in February 2025, EmpowerU students will:

    • Gain a real college experience: Immerse themselves in the vibrant energy of Hartwick College by attending select classes, participating in campus events and connecting with a welcoming community.
    • Build valuable work experience: Develop practical skills through an on-campus job placement tailored to their interests and abilities.
    • Make lasting friendships: Integrate into Hartwick student life, build meaningful connections with peers and create lasting memories.
