EmpowerU @ Hartwick College is a two-year transformative program designed for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities who want to experience all that college life has to offer.

Partnering with local agencies, including Springbrook, the Arc Otsego and Arc of Delaware County, this program provides a supportive and inclusive environment where students can:

Gain a Real College Experience: Immerse in the vibrant campus community at Hartwick by participating in social events, attending lectures and exploring the world of higher education.

Build Valuable Work Skills: Gain hands-on experience through an on-campus job, develop skills and build a resumé.

Make Lasting Connections: Form friendships and connections with Hartwick students and staff, creating a supportive network.

October 7-25, 2024:  In-person Interviews

November 1, 2024:  Acceptance Letters sent

December 1, 2024:  Students Commit (make deposit and complete non-degree seeking form)

January 2025:  Orientation

February 3, 2025:  Program Starts

Program Fees:

Audit course fee (2 courses):  $300
Program Fee:  $4200
Total: $4500 (per semester)

Optional Commuter Meal Plans:
25 meals per semester:  $478.50
75 meals per semester:  $1146.50

There are several payment options for EmpowerU.  Most students pay through the Transition Program Services to utilize Self-direction funds through a Medicaid Waiver, while some students choose to Private Pay directly to the College.

Become a Mentor!

Hartwick students are encouraged to get involved and support students enrolled in the EmpowerU Program.

Springbrook is the primary mentor employer and will coordinate various mentor support services through an on-campus presence. Hartwick students can apply for the paid position through Springbrook, which will supervise the experience. Students will be hired by Springbrook to serve as mentors and can choose to also use the experience as a Hartwick internship.
