Hartwick College’s Yager Museum Hosts Afternoon at the Museum for Families, Aug. 1

The Yager Museum of Art and Culture will host an Afternoon at the Museum, featuring activities, crafts and snacks for children and families.

The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. Free and open to the public, activities will also include an interactive spear-throwing demonstration courtesy of Birchwood Archaeological Services from Gilbertsville, N.Y.

“We’ve had a wonderful year at the museum, with great exhibits, classes and events,” said Museum Curator Quentin Lewis. “We’ll be closed for most of August as we prepare for the coming season, so we wanted to wrap up the summer with a fun event for families and children and build excitement for everything that’s ahead.”

The event is primarily for children ages 5 to 11. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Yager Museum’s galleries will also be open during the event. Visitors can explore current exhibits, including “Discovering Our Place: Working, Learning, and Playing in These Hills,” “Sculptures in Silver: America’s Standing Liberty Quarters, 1916–1931,” and “Masterpieces of European and American Art: the Hartwick College Art Treasure Room.”

The museum’s summer hours through Aug. 1, are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Beginning on Sept. 1, the museum will be open 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday when the College is in session. The museum is closed on Sundays, Mondays, College holidays and when the College is not in session. Admission is free.

More information about the Aug. 1 Afternoon at the Museum and other events is available on the museum’s Facebook page and website, by calling 607-431-4480 or by emailing Lewis at [email protected].
