Hartwick’s Yager Museum Invites Families on a Quest for Fun

The Yager Museum of Art & Culture at Hartwick College is excited to present a new family event, Family Quest at the Yager Museum, on Sunday, Nov.16, beginning at 1 p.m.

The museum is seeking adventurous and intrepid families to unravel a mystery within its galleries. Arrive anytime between 1 and 3 p.m. to collect your Quest Guide and begin your adventure.

Complete six fun tasks, such as art, crafts and scavenger hunts and others, to gather the clues needed to solve the mystery. If you succeed (and we’re sure you will), there will be a prize waiting for you at the end of the game.

Family Quest, developed by students in Hartwick College’s Museum Studies program, was designed for families with children ages 5–12. The quest takes about an hour to complete and features activities inspired by the museum’s current exhibitions.

“We love having families and children in the museum,” said Museum Curator Quentin Lewis. “Family Quest is an exciting new program full of art and fun adventure.”

The event is free and open to the public, with refreshments provided. Plenty of free parking is available on Sundays opposite the museum’s entrance on the first floor of Yager Hall.

The Yager Museum’s galleries will also be open during the readings. Visitors can explore current exhibits, including The Study of One Thing: The Zen Arts of Jody Hojin Kimmel, Sensei; Memorializing the Underground Railroad: The Harry Bradshaw Matthews Collection; Discovering Our Place: Working, Learning, and Playing Within These Hills; Sculptures in Silver: America’s Standing Liberty Quarters, 1916–1931; and Masterpieces of European and American Art.

The museum’s regular hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. when the College is in session. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays, college holidays and when the College is not in session. Admission is free. For more information about this and other events, visit the museum’s Facebook page or website, call 607-431-4480, or email Lewis at [email protected].
