Hartwick College Welcomes Two New Members to Board of Trustees

ONEONTA, NY — Hartwick College is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished alumni, Matt Chase ’93 of Arlington, Virginia, and Garfield Drummond ’99 of Dover, Massachusetts, to its Board of Trustees.

Matt Chase ’93

Matt Chase graduated from Hartwick College in 1993 with a degree in political science. He is the chief executive officer of the National Association of Counties (NACo), representing nearly 40,000 elected officials and a county government workforce of 3.6 million. Before joining NACo, he served as executive director of the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO).

He is a founding board member of Vets’ Community Connections, serves on the board of advisors for The Graduate School of Political Management, and is a Fellow at the National Academy of Public Administration. He is a member of the Economic Club of Washington and the Cosmos Club.

Chase earned a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University. Originally from Warren County, New York, Chase comes from a family engaged in public service—his stepfather held two elected offices in Washington County.

At Hartwick, Chase was involved in the All-Greek Council, Delta Sigma Phi/Delta Beta Rho, Order of Omega, Pi Sigma Alpha and the men’s JV basketball team. He also participated in the Metrolink Volunteer Program and is a mentor for the Hartwick FlightPath program. Chase also serves on the College’s Institute of Public Service Leadership Council.

Chase is married to a fellow Hartwick alum, Shana, who graduated in 1993, and they have two sons, Nicholas and William.

“I am honored to join the Hartwick College Board of Trustees,” said Chase. “Hartwick shaped the lives and careers of me and my wife, instilling a deep dedication to service and community. I look forward to supporting the College’s Life Balance commitment—helping students thrive academically and personally, just as Hartwick helped me and my family.”

Garfield Drummond ’99

Garfield Drummond, Hartwick College class of 1999, who graduated with a degree in economics and political science, brings a wealth of executive experience to his current role as managing partner of Motion Physical Therapy, LLC. This multi-unit physical therapy clinic operates within the FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers franchise system.

Before venturing into physical therapy, Drummond was the managing partner of Phoenix Global Health. From 2020 to 2023, he also served in a consultancy capacity for OGH Real Estate Investment Firm and Metropolis Capital Partners.

Drummond’s extensive career includes over 19 years in the records and information management sector, where he served as president & CEO of National Records Centers. His expertise in this field also encompassed roles in sales, client relations, and business acquisition and integration.

Beyond his professional achievements, Drummond holds a graduate certificate in finance from Southern Methodist University. He remains deeply engaged with his alma mater, having recently completed a term on the Hartwick Alumni Board of Directors. Furthermore, he actively contributes to his local community in Dover, Massachusetts, by serving on its Capital Budget Committee.

“It is a privilege to join the Hartwick College Board of Trustees,” said Drummond. “My time at Hartwick was transformative, giving me both the knowledge and confidence to pursue opportunities across industries. I am excited to support the College’s continued growth and to help ensure that today’s students have the same chance to thrive personally and professionally that I did.”

Kathleen Fallon ’88, chair of the Hartwick College Board of Trustees, welcomed the new members:
“Matt and Garfield embody the spirit of Hartwick graduates,” said Fallon. “They are both accomplished professionals who never lose sight of the importance of service, leadership and community. Their deep ties to Hartwick and impressive records of achievement will strengthen our board and help guide the College as we continue to provide students with an education that balances challenge with support, preparing them for success in every dimension of their lives.”
