Orpheus Production of Rent Is Hawk Dream Come True

The flu was not going to stop Jordan Delage ‘24 from achieving her dream.

“It’s been my dream to be in a production of Rent,” said the creative writing major/theatre arts minor. “My favorite professor, Malissa Kano-White, said that Orpheus Theatre was doing a production, but I was so sick with the flu the day of auditions.”

A friend snapped a headshot, and she sent in a video of herself performing as Rosie, the lead character, in her hometown production of Mamma Mia.

“It worked,” she said. “I’m in the ensemble!”

A dancer as well as a singer and actress, she plays multiple roles in Rent, including a cop, a homeless person, a junkie and a dancer, and singing in several of the show’s show-stopping tunes, including “Contact” and “La Vie Boheme.”

Joining her on stage is Jaylene Rodriguez ‘26, a Hartwick theatre arts major who is also the understudy for Mimi, one of the show’s principal roles. “I recommended she join me for the audition,” she said. “I’m very proud of her. She’s doing such great work.”

Orpheus Theatre’s production of Rent opens at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 12, and runs through a 3 p.m. matinee Sunday, May 14.
