THRIVE from Day One: New Program for Incoming Students
Hartwick College will launch THRIVE, a new program designed to help incoming first-year students transition successfully to college life, Aug. 25-28. Grounded in a strengths-based and culturally responsive approach, the free three-day program encourages students to build community connections, develop confidence and become familiar with campus resources before the start of the fall semester.
Participants will move in early on Aug. 25 and take part in activities and events Aug. 26-28, including group experiences, community-building opportunities and an introductory course that allows students to earn their first Hartwick credit before classes begin. The program also introduces students to the Oneonta community while helping them connect with faculty, staff and peer mentors.
Hartwick College’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Officer Alicia Richardson said the program was created to help students feel supported from the moment they arrive on campus. “What we know is that when first-year students have the ability to build relationships, learn about what skills will help them to be successful, and realize how much of what they will bring with them is relevant before the semester begins, they are primed to be thriving members of our campus community,” Richardson said. “This program will foster a sense of belonging at Hartwick for these students and we are excited about how this will shape their time here.”
THRIVE is offered at no cost and includes meals and activities throughout the program. Space is limited; register today.
