Wick Week Gets Class of 2027 Hawk-Ready

Founders’ Way First Walk through the heart of the Hartwick campus Sunday night capped off a successful Wick Week before classes started Monday, August 28.

Over the course of the week, first-year students bonded through a host of activities, including Big Prize Bingo, Laser Tag and a pizza party in Neahwa Park. It was also a week designed to get students ready to take on their Hartwick experience – and included sessions like “FlightPath to Your Degree,” “Diversity Dialogues” and “Wick Wellness.”

Art major Morgan Einsetler ’27, from West Islip, NY, explained how Wick Week gave her a great start to her Oyaron Hill journey.

“All the events are amazing and get you out of that comfort zone. At first, you are really nervous to meet everyone, but then you see all these nice people in the same boat as you. These are definitely the friends I’m going to have for the rest of my life.”

A major highlight of Wick Week – Opening Convocation- was kicked off by the crowd-pleasing Broome County Celtic Pipes and Drums. During his opening remarks, President Darren Reisberg emphasized three things.

“This journey on which you're embarking is worth making. You deserve to be here. And the collective “WE” at Hartwick are here for you.”

Vice President for Enrollment Management Bryan Gross captivated the crowd with survey results from a quiz given to members of the Class of 2027. The answer that garnered the highest percentage came from the question, “What are you most excited about for College?” Over 40 percent of first-year students responded with “making new friends” and “having fun.”

In another Hartwick College tradition, convocation also featured the presentation of the Class of 2027 matriculation book to the Student Government Association president. Jasmine LaVare and Luca Montesano, representing all first-year students, handed over the book to Noah Hurt ‘24, which included signatures of the newest Hawks penned earlier in the week.

With the fall semester underway, Hartwick College welcomed 403 new students – 367 first-years, 36 transfers and 11 international. Students hail from 23 states and eight countries. As of the first day of classes, the total student body, including those studying part-time, is 1,114.
