Schedules have been written taking into account a student’s general education and major requirements, the preferences that students expressed in their Course Planning Guide, any earned credits, and the availability of courses. However, it may be possible to change courses, or to change to a different meeting time. Please contact the Registrar’s Office to request schedule changes.

Nursing students: If you would like to request a change to your schedule, please email Geneen Bolton, Coordinator of Nursing Opportunities.

All other students may request changes by emailing registrar@hartwick.edu or calling 607-431-4460.

Have you completed your Course Planning Guide (CPG) yet? Once we receive your CPG, we will begin to build your first-semester course schedule. You will be notified by email when your schedule is visible in Self-Service.

Please take some time to complete the CPG as soon as possible, and complete the placement exams if you have not already. You can find the CPG on the New Student Course Planning page.

If you have questions or would like to discuss your options, please email registrar@hartwick.edu or call (607) 431-4460.

Some FLP course choices conflict with particular majors and/or other required courses. Every effort was made to accommodate requests, but some choices were not possible. Please contact the Registrar’s Office to request a schedule change.

Students are generally only enrolled in math or science courses in their first term if their majors require it. Not all students are required to take math (or science) during their first semester.

Students may make changes to their major over the summer by contacting the Registrar’s Office. The best way is to email registrar@hartwick.edu with their name, current major, which major they wish to change to, and a phone number where they can be contacted.

Placement scores are available on the My Progress screen in Self-Service.

To view your placement scores:

  • Click on “Student Planning”
  • On the next screen select “View Your Progress”
  • Underneath the At a Glance section, click “Show Program Notes”
  • Your Writing and Math Levels (aka your placement scores) will show at the top of your Program Notes, under your Major/Minor.

To view how transfer and/or AP credits have been applied to your record, follow these steps after you have logged in to Self-Service:

  • – In the side hamburger menu, click the graduation cap (Academics).
    – Click Transfer Summary.
    – Click on the institution you would like to view.

If you do not see the transfer credits that you expect, make sure you have requested that your official transcripts have been sent by the college or university that issued the credit. All transcripts must be sent to the Admissions Office, Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY 13820.

All Hartwick students must complete our writing competency program regardless of earned credit in other writing courses or AP. You will be placed in the appropriate writing course depending on your writing placement score.

A full-time course load is 12 credits minimum, but some students choose to take more credits. The recommended credit load for your first semester is 13-15 credits.

Remember, J Term is a time to earn another 3 or 4 credits, which when added to a 12-16 credit spring term = at least 30 credits for the first year. 30 credits a year for 4 years = 120 credits for degree completion.

We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the My Progress screen in Self-Service, where you will track your degree progress during your time at Hartwick.

To view your degree progress, and how your scheduled courses meet major requirements:

  • Click on “Student Planning”
  • On the next screen select “View Your Progress”

Self-Service is where you can search for classes, add classes to your plan, register for classes, drop classes, see any account holds, check your degree progress, grades, and more. As a new student, you will have access to these features for upcoming semesters, so we recommend getting familiar with Self-Service now!
